Great old school renovated hotel. I stayed there three nights, and it was very comfortable and convenient. I most appreciated the helpfulness and cheerfulness of the staff, and particularly Michelle, the receptionist.. I had requests for services related to work I had to do while there, and they resourcefully met every one, without blinking an eye.

This place was great. The staff was nice, helpful and informative. The room was clean and nice. The location is a mix of good and bad, there's some bad a few blocks one way (not terrible, just saw some homeless people :( )and good a few The other way. Right across from the Alamo! Ask about the basement. Go Spurs Go

We stayed at Hotel Gibbs to celebrate my mom's birthday. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a kind woman at the front desk and checked into our rooms. Unfortunately, the positive first impression quickly faded. When we got to our room, we noticed several hairs in both the shower and on the bed. Since we were only staying one night, we chose to overlook it. However, things got much worse during the night. At around 4:00 AM, the smoke detector in our room began beeping due to a low battery. The beeping continued for over 30 minutes, making it impossible to sleep. We repeatedly called the front desk for approximately 10 minutes, but no one answered. I eventually went downstairs to the lobby and found the front desk completely unattended. After searching for someone, I found a note directing guests to the back kitchen for assistance. There, I found the front desk manager helping prepare breakfast. I explained the situation, and he said he would come up to replace the battery. After waiting several more minutes with no resolution, I went back downstairs. I was then told that the replacement batteries were locked away and that he wasn't allowed access to them. The only solution was to remove the smoke detector from the ceiling. By the time this was finally addressed, it was around 5:20 AM. We had a long drive ahead of us the that morning and lost a significant amount of sleep. When I woke up, I discovered dried blood on the inside of my bed sheets. I was shocked, horrified, and disgusted. I immediately went to the lobby hoping to speak with a manager about the issues we had experienced. When I began explaining what had happened, the woman at the desk interrupted me and said, “Oh yeah, I already know all that. I was informed.” There was no apology, concern, or effort to make things right. I was told that a supervisor would contact us regarding our stay, but that never happened. I rarely leave negative reviews, and I gave the hotel multiple opportunities to address these issues internally. The stars is only for the wine voucher they gave and the great experience we got at Florvino.

Hotel Gibbs is a real gem. Located near the Alamo, and a few blocks from the River Walk, this place was great. The hotel offered comfortable rooms with plenty of space. We felt like we were the only guests there when in our room. It was great not being able to hear anyone else nearby. Breakfast was great! The Texas shaped waffle, toast, and make your own breakfast tacos was a great spread to get us going for the day.
