About this place Inn on Castro

Inn on Castro is a gay-owned bed and breakfast in the literal heart of the Castro neighbourhood — on Castro Street itself, a minute's walk from Twin Peaks Tavern and the Castro Theatre. The inn operates eight rooms in a Victorian building that has been accommodating gay visitors to San Francisco for over three decades. The character of the property is defined by its scale and its owners' involvement: this is not a corporate hotel chain but a personally-run guesthouse where the hosts know every guest by name and can provide the kind of neighbourhood orientation that no concierge desk can replicate. Full breakfast is included. The Castro location is, for many gay visitors, the only location that makes sense — this is the neighbourhood that gave the world the first openly gay elected official (Harvey Milk), the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, and the transformation of urban gay life from concealment to visibility. Staying in the Castro is staying inside the history rather than observing it from outside. The inn fills quickly for Pride weekend in June and for the autumn festival season; book months in advance for these periods.

The best thing of this place is definitely the owner. Such an amazing person in an amazing entourage, super well located. Great deco details (fresh flowers, fresh drinks, super breakfast, amazing conversation) most rooms are great. Beds are comfortable. Just make sure that if you get the green room you know there's street noise and the bathroom and we are outside the room.

Had a terrific weekend stay here in January 2019. Jan was a delightful host and we had a very nice view of SF Bay from our room. Our room was spotless and comfortable and we enjoyed the ambiance of a neighborhood rather than the hustle and bustle of Union Square or the Financial District. The SF Muni underground and trams were a short block away, so it was very easy getting around the city. Our stay was over a three day holiday weekend and we were able to park our car on an adjoining residential street. The Inn on Castro earns its high ratings.

Absolutely marvelous experience. Beautiful patio. The room was very lovely, with large floor to ceiling mirror closet doors. So close in to the Castro, 30second walk. Our hostess was very personable and friendly. I will surely miss this joint. 😍❤❤❤❤

Jan and Sarah are absolutely wonderful hosts. Our garden room is so beautiful and the view is stunning. The breakfast is to die for Jan is an excellent chef. I could go on and on , but I know I will come back here anytime I can.

Easy to get in touch with, clean, cozy rooms and decor... very attentive, friendly and helpful. Came to this hotel in a pinch after the hotel I’d planned to stay at turned out to be a dump. So glad they had openings for me! Thanks!!
