About this place Strut (San Francisco AIDS Foundation)

Strut is the San Francisco AIDS Foundation's health and wellness center in the heart of the Castro, a bright, welcoming space built specifically for gay, bisexual and trans communities. Inside you'll find free and low-cost sexual-health services — HIV and STI testing, PrEP and PEP, vaccinations — alongside counseling, substance-use support, and social programs, all delivered without judgment. More than a clinic, Strut functions as a community anchor: it hosts workshops, support groups, and events, and continues the Foundation's decades-long legacy at the center of San Francisco's response to HIV. For travelers, it's a reliable, queer-competent resource on Castro Street; for locals, it's a cornerstone of everyday LGBTQ+ health and connection.

This was a real good place, probably the only place in SF where you can test yourself for free. But they gonna change that and gonna make pay people for it or their insurance. I think this is a very wrong choice, whatever politics there is behind, when you know you can test almost anywhere for free in europe , and now the only place that was doing that for free in the bay gonna change their politics, its pretty disappointing .

I attended the transgender visibility art program and found the staff, especially Charlotte, very welcoming and supportive. I truly enjoyed the experience and appreciate their help in creating such beautiful frames.

I don’t have words to describe the level of professionalism, dedication, respect and humanity this place has. We stand together, and together WE CAN!

I did step in the other day for a quick visit and was so surprised I had to put up with the newest technician’s attitude and mouth: Carlos. For someone who knew next to nothing, he sure made a whole bunch of noise. (It is worth not hint that I absolutely love this place, everything they stand for and how friendly all the staff is- there’s a reason I’ve been going here for many years and have donated regularly as well.) Once Carlos finished flapping his gums, lecturing me about something he knew nothing about, he STILL handed me a testing kit with insufficient items and had the audacity to give me even more attitude when I asked for the proper equipment…. For the second time!! (even after I put up with all his mouth garbage!!) Thankfully, I know this isn’t a normal day at Strut. Carlos may want to work a later shift; it was simply too damn early for all that sass and disrespect.
