Crowded with fabrics, trims, and notions from ceiling to floor on its multiple floors, this is as much sewing supplyage as can fit into one downtown storefront. If you're a costumer in the Bay Area, you can't NOT come here.

One has to understand and appreciate fabric to understand and appreciate the value of Britex. Britex is a jewel of the city. I could not find online the kind of quality of fabric and ribbons I found at Britex for a couture regency-styled ballgown (without a commercial pattern) I was making for a Yuletide Ball in Bath, England celebrating Jane Austen's 250th birthday. The ribbon was the double-sided kind that doesn't crinkle. The chiffon floated along the dance floor. The gold and hibiscus jacquard I found was remarkable. It had the perfect weight to it (light, but substantial). The five layers of silk for this dress were all purchased at Britex, and I have never felt so comfortable in a dress! My husband and I had a dreamy time at the ball! I want to extend a special thanks to the young lady (brunette) who helped me find a beautiful silk charmeuse for the slip, to the two ladies who helped me find the ribbon and the buttons, and to Douglas who encouraged me in my endeavors!

Beautiful fabrics!! Lovely employees!! My boyfriend came up with a creative way to cover the metal electricity panel -- to place fabric across the wall. It was genius and I immediately started searching for a great fabric store. My friend mentioned she bought beautiful fabrics at Britex. So I stopped by. Leo was so very helpful! And he even gave me a creative solution. I found a beautiful embroidered white fabric and it looks perfect. A little side note: their San Francisco pattern is super cute! It is upstairs. It comes in a white background and a black background. A great place to buy fabric!!

I don't understand how this place sells anything. I went in looking for a faux fur acrylic fabric and they had it priced at $175 a yard. No, it wasn't real fur. I was acrylic!

I’m so disappointed that the bad reviews are true. I was going to purchase something until I was approached by a staff person who treated me so condescendingly. I left immediately and will not be returning. Be warned.

Im not into fabrics and sewing. But my wife loved visiting thus store. She was shopping for buttons anf this young lady was working behind the counter and took the time to help my wife search for buttons. I greatly appreciated her patience.
