About this place Neighbours

Neighbours opened at 1509 Broadway in April 1983 as the Pacific Northwest's first dedicated gay dance club, in a converted commercial building at the heart of what would become Capitol Hill's queer commercial neighbourhood. It is the Pacific Northwest's longest-running gay nightclub — 42 years of continuous operation — and one of the anchor venues that made Broadway between Pine and Roy Streets a permanent Seattle queer nightlife strip. The club runs two floors: an upstairs mixed dance floor and a downstairs cabaret/drag stage. The Sunday night drag revue "Le Faux" has run continuously since 1998; the Wednesday show tunes night since 2004; the Friday and Saturday underground dance floor since opening. Peak-night capacity is around 800. On 30 December 2013 a former patron with mental illness set fire to Neighbours during New Year's Eve preparations; the club was closed for four months of restoration but reopened in April 2014 with community fundraising covering much of the shortfall on the insurance settlement. The event was the most serious anti-LGBTQ+ incident in Seattle queer nightlife history and produced substantial community-solidarity infrastructure that continues today. Open daily from 21:00; specific programming varies. Cover $5-15 depending on night. Capitol Hill light-rail is a five-minute walk. On the standard Broadway queer heritage walk, Neighbours is the middle anchor between Wildrose (three blocks south) and the Cal Anderson Park (three blocks north).

i don’t know what happened with the music here, but holy moly has it gone so impressively downhill.. with a high cover charge of $20 an hour before close, i expected to remotely know the horrid club remixes of the songs they were playing.. and i’m the one who basically ALWAYS knows whatever is playing too 😭 i’ve had several mediocre experiences in a row on both fridays and saturdays these last few months that i just give up at this point. i really hope something changes and the high cover charges can start paying for some actual dj’s or songs people would actually be singing along to and dancing to. again, the music is so IMPRESSIVELY mid, and this *IS* the gay club that made me start raving about how good music at gay clubs is, but as a gay, i am so unimpressed with the watered down experience, pun intended 🥂 again, LOVE(d) NEIGHBORS! hope something changes!
