About this place The Bottleneck Lounge

The Bottleneck Lounge, a gay bar in Seattle's East Madison neighborhood, opened in 2007. It's an intimate 845 square feet, designed to feel comfortable and stylish without overdoing it—a good place to meet people or just settle in with friends for the night.

They do cocktails well here, and the staff are known to be friendly. They've also got a "tribute collection" on display, which you'll have to see for yourself. The vibe is decidedly welcoming for LGBTQ+ guests and allies.

If you're after a casual drink, a decent conversation, or just an easy night out, this neighborhood spot delivers. It doesn't try too hard.

Seattle's gay bar scene has plenty of options, but this one sticks out if you prefer something smaller and more local than the big clubs. It’s a quieter alternative, a genuine neighborhood gathering spot. For hours and events, check bottlenecklounge.com.

There was a girl playing chess with herself. I asked to join, she said no and I walked away. Today the bartender told me I was no longer welcome because I made a guest uncomfortable 🤣 oh, lord how I hate Seattle.

Quality over quantity describes this bar. They have a small menu, but each item is well made and high quality. Excellent cocktails, quality pizza that is just the right portion size. Friendly and attentive bartender. Relaxed atmosphere that can be a third place to hang out.

Update: I didn't go back for over a year, but my recent visit was perfect. Everyone was really cool, the drinks were fun, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Totally 180. Thank you, Cara! ------- This was my favorite bar, but it's under new ownership I think. It's within walking distance of my apartment. I haven't been in some time, but the bartender I knew, with the tattoos was always really welcoming. I must have just offended them. I don't think it's bc I'm trans. (The silent treatment was the same) That wasn't the way it read this time tho. I think I just offended them by trying to pay per drink. The whole mood changed after I got the check. And I was sitting at the bar, in front of the bartender the entire time. I said "close out, for now" The first drink was great, but when I asked for another one later, a few times, I was ghosted and ignored repeatedly, until finally the bartender made eye contact, asked if I'd like another round, I said yes and nodded. And he picked up a broom and walked away. I would've kept a tab open, but I have bad ADHD and it lends itself to me forgetting to close out when I'm done. I've forgotten a card overnight too often. Not even just bars. I'm bad about leaving things, period. I don't know. I just miss the days I'd go in and have a convo with my bartender there, or anyone there for that matter. It's a different vibe now. It's gotten preppier or something. I just.. didn't want to do Pike/Pine and all that tonight. I don't know... I'm going to bed.
