About this place Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center

Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center, at 2101 E Yesler Way, has been a bedrock of Seattle's Central District since 1968, founded on the principle that everyone deserves healthcare.

This isn't just another clinic; it grew out of Civil Rights-era community health efforts. That history explains its ongoing focus on people who usually get overlooked by the medical system.

For LGBTQ+ travelers or residents, finding affirming medical care can be a real concern. Carolyn Downs explicitly bills itself as an LGBTQ+-friendly organization, which means something when you’re away from your regular doctors. They do the usual clinic stuff, but it's all part of a larger push for healthcare that doesn't care about your background or identity.

If you're in Seattle and need basic medical care, or just want a provider that walks the talk on respect, their half-century in the Central District and clear mission make them a solid choice. Check countrydoctor.org for services, appointments, insurance details, and hours.

I would not recommend this clinic. And won’t be back. Did not feel welcomed, listened to, or safe. The last interaction was the final straw. I was very disappointed with the care I received. Some staff here lack compassion, care, and professionalism. Was treated very poorly and rudely by the MA. I left without getting treatment.
