About this place Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN)

GLSEN is a national organization, based in Washington, D.C., that works on behalf of LGBTQ+ youth in schools.

You won't find a bar or a gift shop here. This isn't a social spot. GLSEN is an office, a resource center, really, dedicated to making schools safer for all students, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity.

If you're an educator, a parent, a student, or just someone who cares about inclusive education, you can drop in and learn about their work: anti-bullying programs, LGBTQ+ inclusion in curricula, and ways to make schools more welcoming. They're all about creating better paths for kids.

You'll find them on Connecticut Avenue Northwest, right downtown. It's a good place to go if you're an LGBTQ+ traveler looking to understand the local advocacy scene, or if you just want to support an organization doing important work for young people.

The Center advertised a career workshop for LGBT individuals focused on job search support, résumé and cover letter review. It sounded like a meaningful resource for the community. Instead, it was a complete failure in basic professionalism. My husband stood outside for 30 minutes only to be told the event was cancelled. There was no email, no phone call, no notice, no signage, and no apology. Nothing. If you are going to position yourself as a resource for vulnerable job seekers, the bare minimum is communication and accountability. Failing to notify attendees of a cancellation shows a complete disregard for people’s time and trust. Do not rely on this organization if you need dependable support. The lack of responsibility speaks volumes.
