About this place National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, in Washington, DC, isn't a bar or a museum. It's an activist institution, pushing for LGBTQ+ rights. If you're in town and want to see where some of that work happens, this is it.

You won't find cocktails or a gift shop here. This is where people organize, strategize, and work on policy. Anyone curious about how LGBTQ+ rights initiatives actually get off the ground, or how advocacy in DC functions, will find it illuminating.

The group's main goal is simple: make sure LGBTQ+ people have basic human rights and don't face discrimination. It's a fundamental mission, and they've been at it for a long time.

Washington has a long LGBTQ+ history, and this organization is part of a whole network of groups, community centers, and events. To see what they're doing, or how to get involved, check their website. It’s a serious stop in a city that’s serious about civil rights.

The Center advertised a career workshop for LGBT individuals focused on job search support, résumé and cover letter review. It sounded like a meaningful resource for the community. Instead, it was a complete failure in basic professionalism. My husband stood outside for 30 minutes only to be told the event was cancelled. There was no email, no phone call, no notice, no signage, and no apology. Nothing. If you are going to position yourself as a resource for vulnerable job seekers, the bare minimum is communication and accountability. Failing to notify attendees of a cancellation shows a complete disregard for people’s time and trust. Do not rely on this organization if you need dependable support. The lack of responsibility speaks volumes.
