Fairmount Park

Fairmount Park, a large green space just south of Wichita State University around 16th Street North and Harvard, has a long-standing reputation in gay guides as an informal cruising area. The action has traditionally centered on the wooded areas, walking and jogging trails, and the restrooms near the parking lot off 16th & Harvard. Most of the documentation is long-established rather than freshly dated, so treat it as historically noted rather than reliably active today. As with any public park this is a family space by day, so discretion and respect for other users are essential. Kansas has no sodomy law (Lawrence v. Texas struck the last of them in 2003), but public-indecency and lewd-conduct laws still apply, so keep any meeting to conversation in the open. The park is a pleasant spot to walk regardless of the scene.
