The Hawthorne Inn & Conference Center

The price is great! The location is great! Parking is free. The pool is cool. The building seems to be renovated several years ago, although the building itself seems a little bit old.

The hotel is an older hotel but it has upgrades and the rooms were very clean with upgrades, the reason why I didn't give 5 stars across the board is you have to pay for breakfast at 10.00 a person and very little choices, food was good tho,and it's not close to anything within walking distance for food,maybe a few places but mainly you need to drive to get anything, overall a very nice place and one last thing,beds were very comfortable.

Great hotel; good size rooms, good bedding, and housekeeping. The receptionists are friendly. The breakfast should be more balanced and healthy with brown bread, fruits and nuts.

Love this hotel! Best place to stay in Winston hands down! Mexican and italian as well as the Camino Bakery within walking distance! Rooms are always clean staff always friendly good breakfast clean pool love staying here every time no complaints!

Let me first say I would stay here again but they have a few things they could improve. Our lamp didn’t work so we reported it to the front desk they said they would have it replaced the next day and gave us a ticket for a free breakfast. The next day the maintenance man came by to fix the phone and said there were no more lamps in the building he could get so I took off the black tape to splice together the wires to find the cord was cut and no attempt was made to repair the lamp. There are only four luggage carts for the whole building. I saw one in a room for several days and in the parking lot. The hostess in the restaurant was just lounging in a chair scrolling on her phone. The shampoo dispenser was knock off the wall and no where to be found. There was no toilet seat it looked like a toilet you would find at a high school. We had another issue we reported to the front desk which they gave us another breakfast coupon.

The price for the location is a great deal. As someone else stated, it was a nice stay for a 3 star hotel. It has free parking and is very close to the Winston Salem Hospital for those who are relatives of a patient there. I agree the hotel was clean.

This was my first time staying in town for a quick overnight sleep. I had a full day of conferences and meetings from 8a to 8p, instead of driving back to the outskirts of thomasville. It's decent enough for an overnight stay. My view was facing downtown. As with all places downtown the walking and solicitation outside from those wayward ones is to be expected. I was concerned about the safety of my car, because the large parking lot seems to be the resting place for more suspect lingering vehicles. The bed was clean and the shower worked. That's about it. Most of the outlets did not work. The room telephone did not work. I wonder if more historic hotels like this ever think to change their wallpaper and carpet for fresher smells. And even if there is limited housekeeping, just buy air fresheners for the elevators and once (1x) every shift wipe the elevator keypad and entry doors. -- long review but it needed to be said. Yes I would stay here again but I would definitely ask for their absolute BEST ROOM! Because I know they've gotta have something better than the one I stayed in.

Overall I would say we were pretty disappointed with our stay. Very loud and not as accessible as was told. When I called for a reservation, I requested a handicapped room for my mom if there was one available. They indeed had one available and we were even told that we would be on the first floor to make it even more accessible. When we arrived, we parked at the front entrance at check in, and when I checked us in, I was told our room was just down the hallway and to the left. After getting the room keys, I went out to grab my mom from the car so we could go to our room. About halfway down the hallway, it turns into a set of stairs, and the only way down other than the stairs, is to use a chairlift (which you have to call someone to assist). When I went back to the desk to ask another way to the room, I was told we would have to get back in the car and drive around to the back of the building to use the wheelchair ramp. We get to the back of the building to the ramp, and it is a very long ramp. When you finally get inside, we had to take an elevator up to the floor we are staying on. When we get there, we then have to walk down a very long hallway to get to our room. My mom was absolutely exhausted by the time we got to our room. For someone who doesn’t have a wheelchair, this place is not accessible. It was also SO LOUD. We were up until past 3am due to people yelling and screaming in the hallway and in their rooms. I would have called the front desk, but their was no number to call. The only positives I would say is that the front desk staff is really sweet and nice, the shower stayed nice and hot, and the beds were really comfy.

Parking Lot smelled like weed upon arrival in the back. Access to the third floor was ridiculous you have to walk down a flight of steps just to get to elevators and from the back of the buildings dark parking lot it’s a flight upstairs. Pack very light when coming here. I heard a knocking sound all night not sure if it was the pipes or what. The breakfast cost 10 dollars and free for kids. The staff was awesome though

Sorry to say that I am quite disappointed with my stay here. For starters, when I checked in on Friday, I was asked if I would like to request room cleaning, to which I said "yes." I specifically asked for linens/towels to be done. Unfortunately, when I got back to the room on Saturday evening, the request was not fulfilled, and the room was just as we left it in the morning. So, I called the front desk Saturday night to tell them the room had not been cleaned. Here is exactly how my call to the front desk went: Me: Hello, this is Scott Schafer in room 327. When I checked in yesterday, I asked to have the room cleaned, but when I returned to the room this evening, it wasn't cleaned. Front Desk (male): When did you call? Me: I didn't call - I made the request when I checked in. Front Desk (male): What is your room number? --- This is very poor service. The front desk staff (operator) wasn't even listening to me when I called or they wouldn't have asked "When did you call?" or "What is your room number?" After this, I requested that the room be cleaned again. I returned to the hotel this evening, only to find again that the room had not been tended to. I would think twice about reserving this hotel. It might be a reasonable price, but the service is poor and disappointing.
