Last verified: October 2026. Nice has no gay hotel in the centre that we could verify. There is no men-only guesthouse in the old town, nothing clothing-optional within walking distance of the bars, and the only openly gay-men-only B&B we found works more like a gîte in the hills near Èze. What the city does have is a small, dense scene, and the hotels around it are mainstream places that are relaxed about two men at check-in. The scene sits in two clusters. One is the grid east of Avenue Jean Médecin (Rue Gubernatis, Rue Alberti, Rue Foncet) and the other is the Garibaldi and port end (Rue Bonaparte, Rue Defly, Rue Raoul Bosio). This guide tells you which of the two to sleep next to, how many minutes each hotel really is from the bars and the Castel gay beach, and which names have changed: the Hi Hotel now trades as Spity Hotel, and the gay guides' old favourite Hôtel Ellington appears to be today's Hôtel Apollinaire. It also covers the tourist tax, Nice So Fetiche in November and the 2027 calendar.
Pick by trip style
| Stay style | Hotels | Walk to the central bar cluster (Rue Gubernatis) | Walk to the Castel gay beach | Who it suits and the watch-out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gay-owned and men-only | Blue Angels Gay B&B (near Èze); Casa Milo (location unverified) | Car or bus only | Car or bus only | Men who want a gay-only house and don't mind missing the bars. Watch-out: small, out of town, and their current status needs confirming before you book. |
| On top of the scene | Hostel Villa Saint Exupery Beach, Hôtel Apollinaire Nice, Hôtel Nice Riviera | 5–8 min | 17–22 min | Bar-hoppers on a short stay. Watch-out: the hostel and Nice Riviera get mixed reviews on room upkeep. |
| Old town and beach end | La Pérouse | 10–12 min | 3–5 min | Beach days at Castel, Le Six and the sauna at night. Watch-out: summer prices are high and many rooms are reached by stairs. |
| Quiet blocks with a garden or pool | Hôtel Windsor Nice, Hôtel Victor Hugo Nice | 18–24 min | 27–34 min | Couples who want to sleep. Watch-out: getting home from Rue Bonaparte at 4 am is a 30-minute walk or a taxi. |
| Luxury and design | Hôtel Negresco, Spity Hotel | 25–30 min | 34–41 min | A Promenade des Anglais address, plus Morgan nearby. Watch-out: you will take taxis to the other bars. |
| Budget, by the station | Hostel Ozz by HappyCulture, Hôtel de Berne | 15–19 min | 29–33 min | Day trips by train to Monaco, Èze and Cannes. Watch-out: the station quarter is dull and a bit grim late at night. |
| Port side | Mama Shelter Nice | 19–22 min (9–11 min to Rue Bonaparte) | 20–25 min | People who drink on Rue Bonaparte and want a hotel with a bar scene of its own. Watch-out: Riquier is residential and quiet once you leave the port. |
Where to sleep, in real minutes
The walkable zone is roughly a rectangle. Its west side is Avenue Jean Médecin, its north side is Boulevard Dubouchage, its east side is the port (Rue Bonaparte and Rue Lascaris) and its south side is the Cours Saleya and the Quai des États-Unis. Inside it are two bar clusters about 12 minutes apart on foot. The central cluster covers Le Couloir on Rue Alberti, the Les Bains-Douches sauna at 7 Rue Gubernatis, Le 7 on Rue Foncet, and L'Oméga and Le Glam just west of Jean Médecin. The eastern cluster covers Le Six on Rue Raoul Bosio at the edge of the old town, then Rainbow Bar on Rue Bonaparte, Le Swing on Rue Defly and Ramdam on Rue Lascaris towards the port. The gay beach is below Castle Hill, at the far end of the Promenade.
The city is flat until you hit Castle Hill, so the minutes below hold up. The exceptions are the cut through the old town at night, which is slower than it looks on a map, and anything that goes round the hill.

The central grid: Jean Médecin to Place Wilson
This is where to sleep if you want everything in one 10-minute circle. Hostel Villa Saint Exupery Beach on Rue Sacha Guitry has six gay venues within 500 m by our listings. L'Oméga Club is a 2–3 minute walk away, the central cluster 5–7 minutes and the Bains-Douches about 4 minutes. It is a social hostel with a bar, dorms and private rooms and a gym that gay travel bloggers have praised. It averages 3.6 on Google, so read recent reviews and expect noise.
Hôtel Apollinaire Nice at 25 Boulevard Dubouchage is the most comfortable bed in this cluster. Club Le 7 is a 2–4 minute walk away, the central cluster 6–8 minutes and Rue Bonaparte 14–17 minutes. It rates 4.4 from about 800 reviews. At least one current gay guide still describes the hotel at this address as the Ellington, which is the name it went by for years as a well-known gay-friendly hotel. Dubouchage is a wide, tree-lined boulevard, quiet at night, with a tram stop close by.
Hôtel Nice Riviera on Rue Pastorelli is the cheaper option on the same grid: 3–4 minutes to L'Oméga, 6–8 minutes to the central cluster and 4–5 minutes to Le Glam. Rooms are basic and reviews (3.7 from 1,800) complain about size and upkeep. You are paying for the location.
At 3 am these streets are fine. Jean Médecin and Place Masséna are lit and patrolled, and the side streets are mostly residential. Le Glam doesn't really fill up until after midnight and runs to 04:30 Friday to Sunday, so street-facing rooms on Rue Pastorelli can hear people going home.
The old town edge and Castle Hill
La Pérouse at 11 Quai Rauba Capeu is built into the rock where the Promenade turns the corner of Castle Hill. From the door it is 3–5 minutes to the Castel gay beach, 2–4 minutes to the Sauna du Château on Rue des Ponchettes, and 5–7 minutes to Le Six. The central cluster is 10–12 minutes away and Rue Bonaparte 13–16 minutes, because you walk round the base of the hill via Place Garibaldi. It is the only hotel in our listings where beach, sauna and the main late bar are all within a 7-minute circle. The hillside pool and terraces are why people pay the premium.
The old town lanes themselves (Rue Droite, Rue Benoît Bunico) have no hotels in our listings worth recommending. At night they are loud with bar crowds until about 2 am, then empty and dark. Short-let flats there are common. Pick one on an upper floor or you will hear everything.

Garibaldi, the port and Riquier
Rue Bonaparte, between Place Garibaldi and the port, has the densest run of gay and gay-friendly bars in Nice. Locals sometimes call it the little Marais. Rainbow Bar is here, with Le Swing a block north on Rue Defly and Ramdam on Rue Lascaris. Hotels are thin on the ground. The nearest in our listings is Mama Shelter Nice on Boulevard de Riquier, 9–11 minutes from Rainbow Bar and 19–22 minutes from the central cluster. The Mama formula of compact rooms, a loud restaurant-bar and a mixed local crowd suits the port end. After about 1 am, Riquier is shuttered and quiet. That is good for sleeping, and the walk back along the port quays is lit.
West of Masséna: the Carré d'Or and the Musiciens
The grid behind the Promenade, around Rue Dalpozzo and Boulevard Victor Hugo, is the calmest part of the centre. Hôtel Windsor Nice (now marketed as Le Windsor, Jungle Art Hotel) at 11 Rue Dalpozzo has artist-designed rooms and a planted garden with a small pool. The tourist office lists 31 double and 26 twin rooms, and one booking site says it was renovated in 2026. Le Glam is 9–10 minutes away, the central cluster 18–20 and the Castel beach 27–30. Hôtel Victor Hugo Nice at 59 Boulevard Victor Hugo is small, rated 4.5, and advertises on a French gay travel platform. That doesn't make it gay-run, but it does tell you who they are happy to see. It is 6–8 minutes to Morgan and 21–24 minutes to the central cluster.

The Promenade west and avenue des Fleurs
Hôtel Negresco is open and running a full winter programme for 2026. A restoration of its listed façade has been under way, so ask whether your room faces scaffolding. It is 25–28 minutes to the central cluster and 34–37 to the Castel beach, though Morgan is close by. Five minutes further inland, the former Hi Hotel at 3 avenue des Fleurs now trades as Spity Hotel, a 4-star. The Matali Crasset room concepts and the rooftop that gave the Hi its place in gay guides may not have survived the change, so check current photos. From here the central cluster is 27–30 minutes on foot. Budget for taxis.
The station quarter
Hostel Ozz on Rue Paganini (4.5 from about 2,500 reviews) and Hôtel de Berne opposite Nice-Ville station are both 8–11 minutes from Le Glam and 15–19 minutes from the central cluster. Avenue Jean Médecin is the straight, lit route home. Avoid the back streets between Rue de Suisse and the station at 4 am. Nothing dramatic happens there, but it is the one part of the centre where you will feel watched.

Gay-owned, men-only and clothing-optional
In October 2026 we could not verify any gay-owned or men-only hotel in central Nice. Every hotel in the table above is mainstream. We list them because they are well placed and have a track record with gay guests, not because they are gay venues.
Outside the centre there are a few options:
- Blue Angels Gay B&B is listed with the Métropole tourist board as a 100% gay bed and breakfast. Its contact address is 8 rue Assalit in Nice, but the listing describes a garden-level gîte in a traditional house near Èze, about 20 minutes from central Nice. Gay travel bloggers describe it as gay-owned and men-only, with three rooms. Confirm before booking where you will actually sleep, how many rooms are let, and whether it is still operating.
- Casa Milo appears on a French gay booking platform as a new men-only guesthouse in the Nice area. We could not verify its location or opening status.
- Gay-only holiday flats and studios with pools turn up on the same platforms and on misterb&b. Treat them as private rentals: check the address, the reviews and the tourist tax line.
The clothing-optional options in and around Nice are venues rather than hotels. Morgan at 3 Rue Claudia is a men-only naturist cruising club. It opens late evening, Tuesday to Sunday, and closes around 2.30 to 3 am. Les Bains-Douches on Rue Gubernatis is the gay sauna. The Sauna du Château on Rue des Ponchettes draws a mixed crowd. For naturist sunbathing, the long-standing gay beach is Saint-Laurent d'Èze, about 13 km east on the Basse Corniche. Locals say you need a car or bus to reach it. Plage des Pissarelles at Cap-d'Ail is the other one. In town, the public pebbles beside Castel Plage are where gay locals have sat for decades (swimwear on). Coco Beach, the rocks past the port off Avenue Jean Lorrain, is the quieter alternative.
Name changes worth knowing: the Hi Hotel is now Spity Hotel, the Ellington's address is now the Apollinaire, and the Windsor has added "Jungle Art" to its name. None of the three was ever a gay hotel, but older guides send people looking for names that no longer appear on the door.
Booking rules that bite
Tourist tax. The Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur charges a flat amount per adult per night on classified hotels. Since January 2025 that amount has included a 34% surcharge to fund the new Provence–Côte d'Azur rail line. The 2026 totals per person per night are €2.28 at 3-star hotels, €3.48 at 4-star, €4.69 at 5-star and €6.43 at hotels with Palace status. Hostels and B&Bs pay €1.07. Unclassified rentals (most Airbnb-type flats) pay 6.7% of the pre-tax price per person per night, capped at €6.43. For two men at a 4-star that is about €7 a night, usually added at checkout rather than in the OTA price. Confirm the 2027 rates in January.
Visitors. French hotels don't run the joiner-fee system you meet in parts of Asia, and there is no rule that a visitor must leave ID at reception. Two things do apply. First, non-French guests normally fill in a short police registration card at check-in. Second, tourist tax and the room rate are per person, so a second person who stays the night is technically an extra guest. Most front desks in Nice won't ask. Hostels are stricter, and non-guests are usually not allowed into dorm areas. The golden tip: if there is any chance you will share the room, book it for two from the start. It costs at most a few euros in tax and no "visitor" question ever comes up.
Resort fees and deposits. Resort fees are not a thing in Nice. Expect a card pre-authorisation at check-in. Some smaller hotels and short-let flats take a cash or card security deposit. Parking in the centre is paid and scarce. Ask the hotel for its partner garage rate before you hire a car for Èze.
Seasonality. Prices are lowest from November to January, outside Carnival. As a benchmark, comparison sites showed the Windsor at about €80–90 (US$85–95) a night for early November 2026 weeknights. They rise sharply for Carnival in February, again in May when the Cannes festival and the Monaco Grand Prix soak up the whole coast, and then through July and August. Summer minimum stays of two or three nights are common at small hotels, and cheap non-refundable rates are the norm on OTAs. For Pride weekend, book flexible.

The gay calendar and where to book for it
Nice So Fetiche #10: 19–22 November 2026
Nice So Fetiche is the leather, rubber, sneaker and uniform weekend run by the Nice association Évidence. This tenth edition also marks the association's tenth year. Tickets are sold on HelloAsso from €15. Note how the packages work: where a package includes accommodation, it puts you in a room shared with another participant by default, and a single room costs extra. If you would rather choose your own bed, book a hotel in the central grid (the Apollinaire or Nice Riviera), since the events run across the bars and late venues there and at the port. November is low season, so three weeks out is still fine.

Carnaval de Nice and Lou Queernaval: February 2027
The Carnaval de Nice 2027 runs from 9 to 28 February. Lou Queernaval is its queer night, a free evening parade of drag, dance troupes and floats in the Place Masséna enclosure (free, but booking is required). The 2027 date has not been announced as of October 2026. The 2026 edition was on 27 February. Carnival pushes up rates across the whole centre. For Queernaval, stay in the central grid, where Place Masséna is 5–10 minutes from the Apollinaire or the hostel. Book once the date appears, usually in early winter.
Nice Bear Week: spring 2027, not announced
Nice Bear Week is small and social, built around the election of Mister Bear d'Azur. The 2026 edition ran from 9 to 12 April, with tickets on HelloAsso and opening drinks at Le Swing. The 2027 dates have not been announced as of October 2026. If it follows the same pattern, the Rue Bonaparte bars are the base, which makes Mama Shelter or a port-side flat the natural choice.

In&Out queer film festival: spring 2027, dates TBA
In&Out, run by Les Ouvreurs, held its 18th edition from 23 April to 4 May 2026, with screenings at Le Rialto, Le Belmondo and other venues. The 2027 dates are TBA. Late April is the likely slot but has not been confirmed. Hotel pressure is mild and any central hotel works.
Pink Parade (Nice Pride): July 2027, date TBA
The Pink Parade is organised by Aglaé. In 2026 it ran on Saturday 11 July. The march left the port at Quai Papacino at 3.30 pm, followed the quays into the centre and finished at the Théâtre de Verdure, where the Pink Party started at 6 pm. Some calendars pencil in Saturday 10 July 2027, but the organiser has not confirmed it. July is peak season anyway, so book as soon as Aglaé publishes. Ideally sleep at La Pérouse or in the central grid, both within 15 minutes of the Théâtre de Verdure and the after-parties. Expect summer minimum stays.

Getting back at 3 am
From the airport. Tram line 2 runs from both terminals under the Promenade to Jean Médecin, Garibaldi and Port Lympia. Port Lympia is the stop for Rue Bonaparte. Jean Médecin and Durandy are best for the central grid. The airport ticket is sold only as a €10 return. Inside the city a normal trip costs €1.70, and a 1-day pass is €7. The ride to the centre takes about 30–35 minutes. The last tram leaves around midnight, so check the Lignes d'Azur timetable for your night. A taxi from the rank to the centre costs about €35–45. Ask whether a flat fare applies before you get in.
From the bars. Most of the night is walkable. The central cluster to Rue Bonaparte takes about 12 minutes through Place Garibaldi. Le Six to Rue Bonaparte takes 11 minutes, and Le Six to La Pérouse 5–7. Lignes d'Azur runs a thin network of night buses, so check routes before relying on one. Uber works well in Nice. Other apps vary, so have the regular taxi number saved as a backup. There are taxi ranks at Place Masséna and Place Garibaldi.
Street by street. Jean Médecin, Masséna, the Promenade and the port quays are lit and busy enough at 3 am. The old town lanes are fine until about 2 am and then empty out. Walk round them along Boulevard Jean Jaurès rather than through them if you are alone and drunk. The station back streets are the stretch to skip. If you are staying west of the Negresco and drinking at Rue Bonaparte, the walk home is over 35 minutes, so take a taxi.
Health, safety and the law
Clinics, PEP and PrEP. The Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d'Azur at 123 Rue de Roquebillière is the place to ask about current testing hours and the hospital's free sexual-health centre (CeGIDD). Confirm the site and times with them before you go. For PEP after a risk, go to the emergency department of the CHU de Nice (Hôpital Pasteur) as soon as possible. Treatment must start within 48 hours. In France any doctor can prescribe PrEP. Visitors without French social security will pay for the consultation and the drugs, so bring enough of your own supply.
App dates. Nice has had repeated ambushes set up through dating apps. Local media reported gangs targeting gay men via Grindr in 2024. In February 2025 Heddy Reynaud, a 26-year-old LGBTQ+ activist, was lured to a fake date, beaten, strangled until he passed out and robbed. The rule is simple: have first meetings in a bar or your hotel lobby, don't go to an unknown address in an outlying estate, and send a friend the profile and the location. Report incidents to the police and to the Centre, which supports complainants.
Drugs and chemsex. All recreational drugs, including cannabis, are illegal in France (CBD is sold legally). Possession for personal use can get you an on-the-spot fine of €200 or more and a criminal record. Anything more serious goes to court. Hotels will charge cleaning or damage fees and can call the police over drug use or smoking in rooms.
Smoking. Since 1 July 2025, France has banned smoking on beaches, in public parks and gardens, at bus shelters and near schools, with fines of €135. Smoking is also banned inside bars and hotels.
Public decency. Nudity is legal only on designated naturist beaches. Sexual exhibition is a criminal offence anywhere visible to the public. That applies to the bushes above the Castel beach and the paths at Saint-Laurent d'Èze, both regularly patrolled. Nice also has a by-law against walking around town in swimwear away from the seafront.
The legal backdrop. Same-sex relationships have been legal in France since 1791. Marriage and adoption have been legal since 2013, discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity is illegal, and conversion therapy was banned in 2022. A hotel that turns away two men asking for a double bed is breaking the law. You can report it, though in Nice it rarely happens.

Three picks
Budget: Hostel Villa Saint Exupery Beach
Villa Saint Exupery Beach is in the middle of the central cluster, with six gay venues inside 500 m and L'Oméga a 2–3 minute walk from the door. Book a private room rather than a dorm if you expect company, and accept that the 3.6 rating comes from noise and wear. For a quieter budget bed, Hostel Ozz rates better but adds 10 minutes each way.

Mid-range: Hôtel Apollinaire Nice
At Hôtel Apollinaire Nice you get good reviews (4.4), a quiet boulevard and Le 7 a 2–4 minute walk away. It is also the address gay guides recommended for years under the Ellington name. It is the best balance in Nice between sleeping well and walking home.
Splurge: La Pérouse
Choose La Pérouse over the Negresco for this kind of trip. The Castel gay beach is 3–5 minutes down the quay, the Sauna du Château 2–4 minutes and Le Six 5–7 minutes, and the room looks across the Baie des Anges. The Negresco is the grander building, but the bars are 25 or more minutes away on foot.

Frequently asked
Is there a gay hotel in Nice?
Not in the centre, as far as we could verify in October 2026. The only men-only option we found is Blue Angels, a small gay B&B near Èze listed with the tourist board. Gay visitors otherwise stay in mainstream hotels in the central grid or near the port.
Which hotel is closest to the gay bars in Nice?
In our listings, Hostel Villa Saint Exupery Beach is 5–7 minutes from the central cluster on Rue Gubernatis, with Hôtel Apollinaire Nice and Hôtel Nice Riviera at 6–8 minutes. For the Rue Bonaparte bars, Mama Shelter Nice is 9–11 minutes away.
Is there a gay beach in Nice?
Yes. The public pebble beach beside Castel Plage at the eastern end of the Promenade is the traditional spot, and swimwear is required. The gay naturist beach is Saint-Laurent d'Èze, about 13 km east on the Basse Corniche.
How much is the tourist tax in Nice?
In 2026 it is €2.28 per person per night at 3-star hotels, €3.48 at 4-star and €4.69 at 5-star, including the 34% rail surcharge. Unclassified rentals pay 6.7% of the nightly price per person, capped at €6.43.
Can I bring a guest back to my hotel in Nice?
Hotels generally have no joiner fee or ID-at-desk rule, but tax and some rates are per person and hostels usually bar non-guests. Book the room for two from the start and the question never arises.
Is the Hi Hotel in Nice still open?
The building at 3 avenue des Fleurs now trades as Spity Hotel, a 4-star. Check current photos if the original design concept is the reason you are booking.
When is Nice Pride 2027?
Aglaé has not confirmed a date as of October 2026. The 2026 Pink Parade was on Saturday 11 July, leaving the port at 3.30 pm and finishing at the Théâtre de Verdure.
