Lou Queernaval
About This Event
Lou Queernaval, the queer night of the Carnaval de Nice, kicks off with a free evening parade on Place Masséna. You'll see drag queens, dance troupes, and costumed floats - it's a two-hour spectacle. The event was started by local LGBTQIA+ associations in 2015 and has since become part of the official carnival program, with funding from the city. The name "Lou" is a nod to the local language, meaning "the" in Niçois.
It's a big deal: in 2026, there were 23 troupes, 350 artists and volunteers, and Dana, a long-time activist, was crowned queen. French singer Michèle Torr was the patron that year, fitting with the theme 'Vive la Reine!'.
To get in, you need to book a spot - it's free, but reservations are required. Don't forget to wear a coat over your costume, as February nights on the Riviera can be chilly. The rest of the carnival, including parades and flower battles, requires separate tickets.
The 11th edition, held on Friday 27 February 2026, drew a crowd of about 13,000 people. The 2027 Carnaval de Nice is set for 9 to 28 February, with the theme 'Vive l'Amour', but the Lou Queernaval date hasn't been announced yet.
