Where to stay in Karlsruhe: the honest 2026 version
The honest summary: Karlsruhe has no gay hotels or gay guesthouses, and you don't need one. Germany has marriage equality and anti-discrimination law covering hotels, and same-sex couples checking in anywhere in town is routine. The real choice is location. Stay near the Hauptbahnhof if you're arriving by train or doing day trips. Stay in the centre around the Marktplatz if you want to walk to Café PRINZs and back. None of the hotels below markets itself to LGBTQ+ guests. We list them because they are well placed and well reviewed.
Near the Hauptbahnhof (south of the centre)
This is the most practical base. ICE trains to Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Mannheim and Strasbourg leave from here, and trams reach the Marktplatz in about five minutes.
- Hotel am Tiergarten, Bahnhofplatz 6: directly opposite the station, next to the zoo.
- IntercityHotel, Victor-Gollancz-Straße 1: on the south side of the station.
- Premier Inn Karlsruhe City Am Wasserturm, Fautenbruchstraße 48: a budget chain hotel a few minutes' walk from the station.
- B&B Hotel, Schwarzwaldstraße 92: budget, close to the station.
- Leonardo Hotel, Ettlinger Straße 23: between the station and the centre. The La ViE youth centre is on the same street.
- Arthotel ANA Eden, Bahnhofstraße 15-19: mid-range, on the street running up from the station.
- Hotel Kaiserhof, Karl-Friedrich-Straße 12: on the Marktplatz, about ten minutes' walk from Café PRINZs.
- ALLVITALIS Traumhotel, Bismarckstraße 37-43: north-west of the centre, towards the Weststadt and queerKAstle.
- Hotel Hoepfner Burghof, Haid-und-Neu-Straße 18: in the Oststadt, in the Hoepfner brewery's castle-style building.
- Moxy Karlsruhe, Lorbeerweg 24: in the north of the city, convenient by car.
- Hotel zum Erwin (Kelterstraße 10) and ibis budget (Ottostraße 1a): both in Durlach, east of the centre, on the tram line.
- Hotel Villa Hammerschmiede (Pfinztal-Söllingen) and Landgasthof Zum Goldenen Anker (Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen): outside the city limits, better if you have a car.
- Distances: from the station to Café PRINZs is about 15 minutes by tram, and to the Aquarium Sauna about 20.
- Busy dates: CSD weekend (next: Saturday 5 June 2027), big trade fairs at the Messe Karlsruhe and the Christmas market fill central hotels early.
- Airports: Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (FKB) is about 40 km south-west. Frankfurt Airport is about an hour away by direct ICE.
