Gay Saunas in São Paulo: The Honest 2026 Guide
Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and Brazilian sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change
São Paulo has more gay saunas than most countries, and they're not hidden: they advertise, they run parties, and several have been open since 1980. The range is huge. There's a 1,100-square-metre classic with two heated pools in Pinheiros, a party house open until 5 a.m., a rooftop sauna by Frei Caneca, a cabaret-sauna with strippers and bingo, a 24-hour sauna-hotel on Largo do Arouche, and a ring of neighbourhood houses where older men spend quiet afternoons. This guide covers all eleven saunas GayOut lists, plus one we think is missing, with current hours and prices in reais.
Each part of the city has its own feel. In Pinheiros, Le Rouge 80 is calm, clean and grown-up. Around Consolação and Frei Caneca the crowd gets younger, more student and more hip. Down in Centro and República the energy is rawer and louder, unmistakably Latin. What they share is the São Paulo routine: a hot, humid afternoon, an hour in steam that smells of eucalyptus, and a cold caipirinha by the pool after a day at the office.
First, know the difference: in Brazil some saunas work as thermas, where part of the crowd are garotos de programa, men who charge for sex. Others don't allow them at all. Neither hides what it is. If someone is unusually attentive and you're not sure, a polite "você é de programa?" early on avoids an awkward conversation later. For the bigger picture, including Dédalos and the cruise clubs, see our São Paulo cruising guide.
Don't mix up the two 24-hour names. Dédalos is a 24-hour cruising bar: dark rooms and cabins, but no steam, no sauna and no jacuzzi. 269 Chilli Pepper is a 24-hour bathhouse and hotel, with pools, steam and rooms. If you want to get wet at 4 a.m., you want Chilli Pepper.
How to choose
- Want the full-size classic? Le Rouge 80 (Pinheiros).
- Want a party and late hours? Wild Thermas (Higienópolis), Friday until 5 a.m.
- Staying near Frei Caneca or Paulista? Top Man and Espaço Lagoa are both in Consolação.
- Want it any hour? 269 Chilli Pepper, 24 hours.
- Prefer older men, or are one? Amazonas, Xingu, Penha, Ricardo Jafet.
- Cash saves money. Several saunas (Le Rouge 80, Xingu, Amazonas) charge R$5–10 more by card. Pix is everywhere in Brazil, but it needs a Brazilian CPF number, so most visitors can't use it.
- Lockers and towels are included. Your phone and wallet go in the locker; theft inside is rare because nobody carries anything.
- Metro: Line 2-Green to Clínicas for Le Rouge 80; Line 4-Yellow to Higienópolis–Mackenzie for Top Man and Wild Thermas; Line 3-Red (or Line 4) to República for Hot Thermas and 269 Chilli Pepper. The metro closes around midnight.
- Condoms are provided at licensed saunas.
- Your phone is the risk, not the sauna. Central São Paulo has a real phone-snatching problem, and it's worst at night around Largo do Arouche and Rua Aurora, exactly where Chilli Pepper and Hot Thermas are. Keep your phone in your pocket on the street. After dark, order your Uber or 99 from inside the lobby, and step out only when the car is at the door.
- Know which house you're in (see the thermas box above), and agree on anything paid up front.
- Heat and alcohol: steam rooms plus caipirinhas dehydrate fast. Drink water between rounds.
One thing that surprises Europeans: this is largely an afternoon scene. Most saunas open around 2 p.m. and many close by 9 or 10 p.m. On weekdays there are two rush hours. The first is the lunch break (hora do almoço, roughly 12:00–14:00), when office workers drop into the saunas that open early, such as Hot Thermas (from noon) and Amazonas. The second and busiest is after work (pós-expediente, 17:00–20:00), everywhere. Plan your sauna for the afternoon and your bars for the night.

Consolação and Frei Caneca: the central cluster
Top Man Club · Rua Marquês de Paranaguá 363
The most central of the big saunas, a short walk from Higienópolis–Mackenzie station (Line 4-Yellow) and the bars of Frei Caneca. It has dry and steam saunas, an indoor pool, a rooftop terrace, a garden, hydromassage, massage rooms, a video room, a bar, a smoking lounge and private cabins. Open daily 14:00–22:00, entry R$65.

Espaço Lagoa · Rua Pedro Taques 130
Half sauna, half cabaret, and only in Brazil. Alongside the steam, sauna, pool and massage there are strippers, drag shows, bingo and karaoke nights. It opens daily at 15:00 and runs until about midnight, with entry from around R$70 depending on the day. Come for an evening, not a quick visit.
República and Arouche

269 Chilli Pepper Single Hotel · Largo do Arouche 610
The city's only 24-hour sauna and bathhouse, allowed to stay open round the clock because it's registered as a hotel. It's a sprawling men-only complex of around 2,300 square metres with pools, steam and dry saunas, a dark room, a maze, a gym, cabins and suites you can rent for the night. República station (Lines 3-Red and 4-Yellow) is a short walk away, but read the safety note below before you walk it at night.
Hot Thermas Club · Rua Aurora 710
One of the largest saunas in the centre, spread over several floors near República station, a few doors from The Graus cruise bar. Open daily 12:00–22:00. Ask at the door about prices and current events (@hotthermasclub on Instagram).

Higienópolis and Pinheiros: the big two
Wild Thermas Club · Rua Doutor Veiga Filho 802
The party sauna, famous for its Clube dos Pauzudos nights (the name translates very literally). It also offers massage and beauty treatments. The nearest metro is Higienópolis–Mackenzie (Line 4-Yellow), a 10–15 minute walk. Hours: Saturday–Thursday 14:00–23:00, Friday 14:00–05:00. Entry R$65, R$55 on Wednesdays, and R$35 for students (18+) Monday to Thursday.

Le Rouge 80 · Rua Arruda Alvim 175, Pinheiros
The institution, open since 1980, near Hospital das Clínicas and Clínicas station (Line 2-Green). It covers 1,100 square metres, with 350 lockers, two heated pools, a hot tub, two Finnish saunas and two steam rooms, two dark rooms, a bar and a TV area. The crowd is mostly men aged 30 to 50, many of them heavier-set, plus their admirers of every age. Garotos de programa are not allowed. On Thursdays there's a free dinner from 18:30. Hours: Monday–Thursday 14:00–21:00, Friday–Sunday 14:00–22:00. Entry R$100 in cash, R$110 by card.
The neighbourhood houses: older crowd, afternoon hours
These are the saunas locals visit on a weekday afternoon. They're less polished than the big names, and often friendlier. The word you'll hear is coroa, Brazilian slang for an older man, said with affection.

Balneário Amazonas · Rua do Gasômetro 641, Brás
One of the oldest gay saunas in the city: three floors and a loyal mature crowd. Hours: Monday and Saturday 10:00–22:00, Tuesday–Friday 13:00–22:00, Sunday and holidays 10:00–20:00. Entry R$70 cash or debit / R$75 credit Tuesday–Friday, and R$80 / R$85 Saturday–Monday and holidays.
Sauna Xingu · Rua Dr. João Batista de Lacerda, Belém (Mooca)
Open since 1980 and built for discretion: five heat rooms (one wet, one dry, three steam), a solarium, a video room, a cold plunge pool and free cabins, with free parking and valet. Most of the crowd is over 30. Hours: Monday–Saturday 14:00–20:00 (closed Sundays). Entry R$100 cash, R$110 card.

Sauna Ricardo Jafet · Av. Dr. Ricardo Jafet 493, Ipiranga
Three floors with a jacuzzi, roomy cabins and TV and video rooms. Open daily 15:00–21:00. At R$45 on Tuesdays (except holidays) and R$65 on other days, it's one of the best deals in the city.
Sauna Penha · Rua Guaiaúna 308, Penha
The east-side house with a mature crowd. Hours: Monday–Friday 13:00–20:00, weekends and holidays 10:00–20:00. Entry about R$80.
Also listed, not yet confirmed
Two more central saunas appear on GayOut, but we couldn't confirm their current hours or prices: Toca do Coelho (Rua Marquês de Paranaguá 377, practically next door to Top Man) and Thermas Don Juan (Rua Martins Fontes 330, near Frei Caneca). Check their social media before going.
Practical: money, lockers, getting there
Safety and health
Health: PEP is free in Brazil for visitors too, through the public SUS system. It must start within 72 hours: go to any public emergency unit (UPA) or to the specialist CRT-DST/AIDS centre on Rua Santa Cruz.
Words worth knowing: toalha (towel), armário (locker), coroa (an older man, often a handsome one; an affectionate, everyday word), urso (bear), gostoso (hot, very attractive), ativo / passivo / versátil (top / bottom / vers), camisinha (condom).

Frequently asked questions
What is the best gay sauna in São Paulo?
It depends on the crowd you want. Le Rouge 80 in Pinheiros (Rua Arruda Alvim 175) is the classic: 1,100 square metres, two heated pools, two dark rooms, open since 1980, with a mostly 30-to-50 crowd and no garotos de programa allowed. Wild Thermas in Higienópolis is the party house, open until 5 a.m. on Fridays. Top Man near Frei Caneca has a rooftop and pool and is the most central. Espaço Lagoa mixes sauna with strippers, bingo and drag.
How much does a gay sauna cost in São Paulo?
Most charge R$65–100 (about US$12–18). Wild Thermas is R$65, R$55 on Wednesdays and R$35 for students from Monday to Thursday; Ricardo Jafet is R$45 on Tuesdays and R$65 otherwise; Top Man is R$65; Le Rouge 80 is R$100 in cash or R$110 by card; Sauna Xingu is R$100 in cash. Several saunas charge a little more for card payments, so carry some cash. Pix is common in Brazil but needs a Brazilian CPF number, so most visitors can't use it.
What is a thermas, and will someone expect payment?
In Brazil, a thermas is a bathhouse where some of the men may be garotos de programa, working men who charge for sex. Not every sauna allows them; Le Rouge 80, for example, does not. Nobody will spring it on you, but if someone is unusually attentive, a polite 'você é de programa?' (are you working?) settles it at the start rather than awkwardly at the end.
Is there a 24-hour gay sauna in São Paulo?
Yes. 269 Chilli Pepper Single Hotel at Largo do Arouche 610 is the city's only 24-hour sauna: a combined bathhouse and men-only hotel licensed to open round the clock. Don't confuse it with Dédalos, which is also open 24 hours but is a cruising bar with no steam or pools. It's one of the largest in Latin America, with pools, steam, cabins and suites. Wild Thermas stays open until 5 a.m. on Fridays; most other saunas close between 8 and 11 p.m.
Which São Paulo saunas have an older crowd?
Several, and they're some of the friendliest. Balneário Amazonas in Brás, Sauna Xingu in Belém, Sauna Penha in the east and Le Rouge 80 in Pinheiros all draw mostly men over 30, many of them coroas, the Brazilian word for older men, and the bears and admirers who come for them. These are daytime venues: most open early afternoon and close by 8 to 10 p.m.
