The honest summary: Colorado Springs is a city of about 494,000 people at the foot of Pikes Peak, and its gay scene is small, downtown-centred and tied up with a hard history. This is the city where the 1992 anti-gay Amendment 2 campaign started, where Focus on the Family has its headquarters, and where five people were killed at Club Q on 19 November 2022. It is also a city with a gay piano bar that rebuilt after a fire, a queer lounge opened by Club Q survivors, a new LGBTQ+ community centre and a June Pride in the middle of downtown. You'll find two LGBTQ+ bars, one queer-friendly cabaret, a men's club that opens twice a month and a lot of daytime community. For a bigger night out, Denver's Capitol Hill bars are about 70 miles north.
Legal in one line: Same-sex marriage has been legal in Colorado since October 2014, and voters removed the old constitutional ban in November 2024 (Amendment J, about 64% yes); state law has banned discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment since 2007 and in housing and public accommodation since 2008.
Bars and clubs
There are two places in town that call themselves LGBTQ+ bars, plus one cabaret where queer people go for the shows. They're in different parts of the city, so plan on a car or rideshare if you want to see more than one.
ICONS, 16 E Kiowa St, downtown. It bills itself as "that gay bar with the singing bartenders": a piano and show bar owned by Josh Franklin and John Wolfe. It opened in 2020 on Bijou Street, lost that building to a fire in December 2023 and reopened on Kiowa in November 2024. Its own site lists Tuesday trivia, a Wednesday concert series, drag on the first Friday of the month, a Saturday DJ from 10pm, and drag bingo at 1pm plus karaoke at 7pm on Sundays. It's open Tuesday to Sunday and closed Mondays.
The Retro Lounge, inside the Satellite Hotel at 411 Lakewood Circle, east of downtown. Club Q survivors Michael Anderson and Tara Bush opened it in 2024 as The Q Lounge and renamed it in March 2025. Expect drag, bingo and karaoke nights and a memorial wall for the five people killed at Club Q. Local TV reported in late 2025 that the hotel won't renew the lease when it ends, so check its social pages before you go; we couldn't confirm current hours.
La Burla Bee, 110 N Nevada Ave, downtown. A burlesque cabaret and cocktail bar opened in 2021 by performer Bunny Bee, with the Beehive dance floor on Friday and Saturday from 10pm and a monthly all-ages drag brunch. It isn't a gay bar and doesn't market itself as one. We list it as queer-friendly because local TV has called it a hub for queer people downtown.
Other downtown bars on Tejon Street are mainstream. We found no LGBTQ+ nights at AXC, GOLDROOM, Golden Hour, Lulu's or the Tejon Street club strip, so we don't list them.
Colorado Springs has no gay bathhouse open every day. The nearest thing is Club Buddies, a private club for gay and bisexual men at 3430 N Academy Blvd, next door to the former Club Q. It has run since 2003, and its website lists a sauna, steam room and hot tub. It opens only on the second and fourth Saturday of each month, 8pm to midnight, with check-in from 8pm to 9pm; entry is $30, or $35 after 9pm. For a full-time men's sauna you'll need to go to Denver.
We didn't find any outdoor cruising area named by two independent, current sources, so we don't list one. Most men here meet on the apps.
Prism Community Collective, 711 S Tejon St, is the city's LGBTQ+ community centre, open since June 2024. Its site lists drop-in hours of noon to 8pm, Wednesday to Friday, and its calendar has book clubs, game nights, potlucks, job-search workshops and free STI and HIV testing with Hey719 by appointment. It's the best place to find out what's on that week.
Inside Out Youth Services, 223 N Wahsatch Ave, Suite 101, runs programmes and support groups for LGBTQIA2+ youth and young adults. Google and older listings still show its former address on W Colorado Ave.
Colorado Health Network, 1301 S 8th St, Suite 200, offers free HIV, hepatitis C and syphilis testing and low-cost PrEP, by appointment (719-578-9092). El Paso County Public Health, 1675 W Garden of the Gods Rd, also tests and prescribes PrEP on a sliding scale.
PFLAG Colorado Springs holds monthly meetings; see pflag.org for the chapter's contact details.
For daytime browsing, Westside Stories (631 W Colorado Ave) is an independent bookshop with a curated LGBTQ+ list, and Cronk Art and Curiosities in Briargate is on Visit COS's list of LGBTQ+-friendly businesses and keeps a permanent ofrenda for the Club Q victims.
Club Q: what happened and what's there now
Club Q opened in 2002 at 3430 N Academy Blvd and was the city's main gay nightclub for twenty years. On the night of 19 November 2022 a gunman killed five people there, Daniel Aston, Kelly Loving, Ashley Paugh, Derrick Rump and Raymond Green Vance, and wounded many more before patrons tackled him. He was sentenced to life without parole in Colorado in June 2023 and, on federal hate-crime charges, to 55 further life sentences in June 2024.
Club Q never reopened. Its owners have said they want to reopen at the original site eventually, but nothing had opened by October 2026. They are building a memorial outside the building, with a flagpole, five columns and boulders, and its handling has been disputed by some survivors. The other places of remembrance are the wall at The Retro Lounge and the ofrenda at Cronk Art and Curiosities. If you visit the site, keep it respectful: it's a working strip of N Academy Blvd, and Club Buddies still operates next door.
Pride and events
Pikes Peak Pride is the city's Pride festival, held in Alamo Square Park at 215 S Tejon St, in front of the Pioneers Museum. The 2026 festival ran on 13 and 14 June, with the parade at 11am on Sunday; in 2025 it was 14 and 15 June. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked in October 2026, so watch pikespeakpride.org. Manitou Springs, the small town at the mouth of Ute Pass about 5 miles west, holds its own PrideFest in July in Soda Springs Park (11 July in 2026).
Through the year, the most reliable calendars are ICONS (icons-co.com/events) for drag and shows and Prism Community Collective for community events. Touring comedians and drag tours play the Pikes Peak Center downtown; Tig Notaro is booked there for July 2027.
Neighbourhoods
There's no gay district. Downtown, around Tejon Street, Nevada Avenue and Kiowa Street, has ICONS, La Burla Bee, Prism at the south end of Tejon, Alamo Square Park for Pride, and most of the walkable hotels. Westside and Old Colorado City, along W Colorado Avenue, have the bookshop, the MCC church and a long queer history: Hide 'n' Seek, the city's best-known gay bar for decades, was at 512 W Colorado Ave until 2005. Manitou Springs is a separate, arty and progressive small town just west, with its own Pride. Club Buddies and the old Club Q are on N Academy Blvd in the northeast, and The Retro Lounge is in the southeast near the airport.
Club Q (3430 N Academy Blvd): closed since the shooting on 19 November 2022. Some travel sites still list it as open. It isn't.
"The Q" at the Satellite Hotel: the 2023 plan to reopen Club Q at the hotel became The Q Lounge, which has been The Retro Lounge since March 2025.
ICONS on Bijou Street: burned in December 2023. The bar now operates at 16 E Kiowa St.
Hide 'n' Seek (512 W Colorado Ave): the city's long-running gay bar and club, open from 1969 to 2005.
The Underground and V-Bar: older gay bars that are now closed; we couldn't confirm when.
Practical tips
Getting here: Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is about 6 miles southeast of downtown. Denver International (DEN) has far more flights and is about 90 miles north, roughly an hour and a half by car.
Getting to Denver: it's about 70 miles, a bit over an hour on I-25. CDOT's Bustang South Line runs from the downtown terminal at 127 E Kiowa St, right by ICONS, to Denver Union Station, with 12 round trips on weekdays and 6 at weekends.
Altitude: the city sits at about 6,035 feet. Drink water and go easy on alcohol on your first night, especially if you plan to go up Pikes Peak (14,115 feet) the next day.
Context: this is a military city, with Fort Carson, Peterson and Schriever Space Force bases and the Air Force Academy, and a centre of evangelical organisations. Downtown and Manitou Springs feel relaxed; in the suburbs, people are more conservative. We know of no specific safety problems for visitors, but the city has a history worth respecting.
A few words
Locals call the city "the Springs" or "COS". "Downtown" means the grid around Tejon Street, "the Westside" means Old Colorado City along W Colorado Ave, and Pikes Peak Pride is often just "PrideFest".

Two places call themselves LGBTQ+ bars as of October 2026. The Retro Lounge, in the Satellite Hotel at 411 Lakewood Circle, is a queer lounge opened by Club Q survivors, with drag, bingo and karaoke. La Burla Bee on N Nevada Ave is a queer-friendly burlesque cabaret with a monthly drag brunch, not a gay bar.

Generally yes, and Colorado's laws are among the most protective in the US: marriage since 2014, a 2024 vote that removed the old constitutional ban, and anti-discrimination protection for sexual orientation and gender identity in jobs, housing and public places. The city itself is more conservative than Denver, with a large military presence and Focus on the Family's headquarters, and it has the memory of the 2022 Club Q attack. Downtown and Manitou Springs feel relaxed.
