Hotel AFILUX Residencial

A budget place just outside of city center. 25,000 AOA for an apartment, which comes with 2 double rooms, 1 bathroom,a living room, and a small kitchen which may or may not have a stove. They do play music out in the courtyard till very late so earplugs are a must. The dirt road, however, is very poorly maintained so keep your fingers crossed it doesn't rain during your stay.

This is a hotel with an old body but a big heart. There's a lot to criticize about the place from the cracked, dirty and broken walls, to the shower that leaks when it works. For 25K though, it punches above its weight. There's off street parking if you need, electrical plugs and lights that work, a bed that is not soft (though it is hard and springy), aircon in the rooms that help on the hot nights and a fridge in the kitchen. There's cooking available from the kitchenette in some of the rooms. Internet is available but frustratingly slow and intermittent. The staff will do your laundry for a price. There's a good vibe in the courtyard if you're into music, with some big speakers in use, but it can go on late into the night. We came for one night and ended up staying for four nights. The first night there was a rock concert about 500m away that stopped at 5am. It was really loud but the rooms were relatively quiet. There were mosquitos, but the aircon helped reduce the impact of the mosquitos. Willie, who helps out on some days, speaks good English and was incredibly helpful getting my car fixed up. There's also a tv in the lounge. So this is a one or two star hotel, but if you're the sort of person prepared to overlook what are mostly aesthetic issues, then this is one of the most practical and affordable options I could find in Luanda.
