Really nice and quiet hostel, with big and comfortable shared spaces. Just be aware there's stairs to get to the rooms and also the sheets were a bit fluffy.

The location is very convenient, and the reception staff are very friendly. It's a top choice for backpackers who are new to the area! So this is a hostel in the city centre. Really cool people and almost new facilities. 😇 The staff are very attentive and make sure everything runs well. It is close to the Esplanade, and all the major restaurants on the beach front. Chiara helped many of us feel at home & feel comfortable here. She is very professsional and punctual, too. 💪 ⏰️ It is a hostel which you need to see.

Hey guys, so this is a really cool hostel in Cairns. It has a very nice kitchen and foyer - people are chilling here all the time, which is great. Also, rooms have very nice air con and very clean showers. I mean, it is probably the nicest hostel in town. Also, the receptionists will provide a lot of help and tips on how to enjoy Cairns. Shout out to the staff, especially Chiara..! She gave many insights into life in Cairns, as she is very experienced here. 👍 😎

There are many activities and the food is delicious.

In general it was okay. A lot of long stayers, it's hard to socialize because they don't really want to talk. Bathrooms were clean, kitchen in the evening is a mess, my roommate during the last 3 days was awful, nothing to do with the hostel though.

From the moment I arrived at the Drifter I felt very welcomed 😊 The atmosphere was friendly and made me feel at home right away. A special thanks to Alex and Matteo at the lobby, who were both so welcoming, helpful, and always smiling. They really made my stay even better with their kindness and positive energy.

This place is completely overpriced for what it is. The dorms don't get cleaned thoroughly, they don't get a decent vacuum under beds which is clear from rubbish left there, the bathrooms are not cleaned well just dirt mopped around. I arrived in room 305 to crackers on the floor and dirt not cleaned under bed. There was sick all over floor in bathroom that wasn't cleaned up for about 3 hours until I asked reception. The vibe is unfriendly as lots of long term stayers, no one says hello to each other. Also, I arrived late at night & couldn't find my room as lights were off in hallway. Room with 6 beds was cramped, not enough space and Aircon was dripping onto my bed. This is a newly renovated hostel, you'd think it would have been designed better with not noisy lockers banging, Aircon positioned to where not dripping on bed & more efficient use of space. Also fire alarm goes off weekly at 4am I was told (so annoying). Felt like being in a prison all marched back inside after & huge queue for toilet at 5am.The only nice thing was the sexy tattooed guy on reception who gives great travel tips...

The bathroom and room was clean. This was really good! I just had a noisy ventilation shaft over my head during the night. It was very loud. The kitchen and dining area were quite dirty. During the 2/2 night, the fire alarm turned on. In according to other reviews, it happens often. For that price I wouldnt recommend this hostel. There are better ones in cairns.
