Mumbai Pride
About This Event
This is Mumbai's queer Pride march. It is the same march Gayout also lists as Queer Azaadi Mumbai, the collective name it used for years (azaadi means freedom). Pride marches have been held in Mumbai since 2005. The current organisers call themselves Mumbai Queer Pride, a collective of queer groups and allies.
The march comes at the end of a month of community events, such as talks, screenings and performances. It starts at August Kranti Maidan near Grant Road, where the 1942 Quit India movement was launched. Getting permission has been a recurring problem. In 2020 police refused the Kranti Maidan start and the march moved to Azad Maidan, and the 2024 march came back after a four-year gap. That year about 1,000 people took part.
The march is free and starts mid-afternoon. The organisers publish a route map on their website shortly before.
The 2026 march was held on Saturday 31 January, 3pm to 6pm, from August Kranti Maidan. The 2027 date hadn't been announced when we checked. The last three marches were on a Saturday in late January or early February.
