About this place Tel Aviv Municipal LGBTQ Center

When Tel Aviv opened its Municipal LGBTQ Community Center in 2008 — spending four million shekels to restore a Bauhaus building inside Gan Meir — it created one of the first LGBTQ centers anywhere to be fully run and funded by a city government. The center runs an LGBTQ-specialised health clinic, youth and senior programming, cultural events, a café and community space, with the rainbow flag flying from its roof over the park. It functions as the practical heart of the community whose symbols surround it: the 2014 memorial to LGBT victims of Nazi persecution and the Bar Noar memorial garden stand metres away in the same park. Visiting: the building fronts the park off King George Street; program hours run through the week and the café terrace is an easy, open way in. For travelers it is both a resource — clinic, events listings, community noticeboard — and, with the memorials beside it, the natural centre of any queer-history hour in Tel Aviv.
