Breakfast is very basic. But the coffee (Americano) deserves praise.

Good location for the Thai Embassy for Visa (15 mins walk) Staff very attentive. The rooms are clean. The bed linen was very good, pillows were great. Shower hot.

Built in 2013-4, the hotel building is not a "French colonial" building; the interior is consistently (and tastefully) modeled in a typical early-20th-century French style, while the outside is a somewhat understated 1960s Mediterranean redux; no perceptible Laotian influence. Rooms are well appointed, clean, comparatively spacious and comfortable; everything mostly works (but in case of WiFi- or safety-locker- malfunctions, staff may not acknowledge the problem and not be able to do anything about it). Traffic is much busier than it appears on older photos, but with the windows and the curtains closed, it is a background noise most of the time. The hotel restaurant is only in use for the (straightforward European continental) breakfast in the mornings. To communicate with the very friendly and very helpful reception, (even if they are said to speak English and German), use the Google Translate app (and make sure to download the offline Lao translation file before you come here).
