What reviewers say

Visitors frequently praise the hotel's unique historic character and excellent location, with many finding the staff welcoming and the rooms well-appointed. However, some guests found rooms to be small, the continental breakfast mediocre, and the service and value for money disappointing, particularly given the price point.

Amazing location and ambience. Beautiful historic building surrounded by an art museum, café, and lovely shops- perfect if you love art and history. The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable to stay in. Would happily come back.

We had a lovely stay at the Observatory Hotel. The hotel is in a beautiful old university building surrounded by various art galleries and right across the street from the Christchurch Botanical Gardens. The service was top notch.

The hotel is nice however, I had a change of plans and tried to amend the nights stay to one night earlier. The hotel blamed the travel agents policies , the travel agent blamed the hotels policies and in the end I had to pay twice to stay a night earlier. Really unfair and they had rooms available that night which were unoccupied. My stay was brief , hotel is ok but nothing special. Very unkind and I would not return, it would have taken nothing to offer a last minute date change as rooms were vacant anyway, it’s pure greed and I will not support hotels like that: Hospitality at its worse, greedy management and quite rude on the phone, the computer just says NO. Avoid this hotel, not kind of helpful . Nice enough guy on reception on arrival and he was responsive when my flight got delayed by 5 hours, also avoid jetstar - awful airline!
