Gay Bars & Clubs in Makati
Makati is the corporate heart of Metro Manila, and after dark its gay nightlife concentrates in one place above all: Poblacion, the historic barangay on the city's western side that has reinvented itself as the area's trendiest bar-hopping district. A short ride from the Ayala and Salcedo business towers, Poblacion's narrow streets fill after midnight with a mix of locals and travellers moving between drag shows, dance floors and late-night eateries.
The Bars
Halxyon Club is Poblacion's flagship LGBTQ+ venue — a high-energy drag and dance club where local drag performers headline weekend shows and the floor stays busy until the early hours. LIPS is the veteran of the scene, a long-running drag dinner-cabaret where campy, well-produced production numbers come with your meal and drinks. Pride Haven Vibes is a newer, more low-key community bar — a friendly neighbourhood spot that has quickly become part of the fabric of Makati's queer nightlife.
Beyond these dedicated venues, many of Poblacion's mainstream bars and cocktail dens are relaxed and welcoming, so a night out here rarely means sticking to a single address. Makati Avenue, on the edge of the business district, adds a handful of more upscale, professional-crowd options.
Know Before You Go
Same-sex relationships are legal in the Philippines and Filipino culture has a strong, visible drag and pageant tradition, so Poblacion feels open and easygoing. There is no national anti-discrimination law, however, and very overt public displays of affection are best kept for inside venues. The scene turns over quickly — bars open, close and rebrand — so check a venue's current social media before heading out.
For the wider Metro Manila picture, the historic gay strip of Malate in the City of Manila and the big clubs of Quezon City and Pasig are each a taxi or Grab ride away, but within Makati itself Poblacion is where the community gathers.
