Gay Bars & Clubs in Hanoi
Hanoi's gay nightlife is small and low-key — nothing like the busy circuits of Bangkok or even Ho Chi Minh City — but it is real, welcoming and easy to navigate. The city has a couple of dedicated gay bars plus a weekend dance club, all within a short Grab ride of the Old Quarter, and the scene leans on gay saunas and men's massage spas for the rest of its social life. If you want a relaxed cocktail, a rooftop drag show or a late-night dancefloor, here is where to go.
Where to Go Out
There is no single "gay village" in Hanoi. GC Bar sits just off Hoàn Kiếm Lake in the Old Quarter, R7 is a few minutes west in Ba Đình, and BirdCage is out in the leafier Tây Hồ (West Lake) district. All three are easy to reach by taxi or ride-hailing app, so an evening can comfortably combine a drink in the centre with a later dance north of the lake.
Hanoi's Gay Bars & Clubs
R7
R7 has become the most active spot on Hanoi's gay scene — a multi-level rooftop bar on Đào Tấn in Ba Đình, spread across the 7th floor and an open-air terrace. It runs regular drag shows and turns into a lively dancefloor at weekends, drawing a friendly mix of locals and international visitors. Entry is inexpensive and usually includes a drink. With the highest energy and the best-reviewed room in town, it is the natural centrepiece of a Hanoi night out.
GC Bar
GC Bar (short for Golden Cock) is Hanoi's veteran gay bar, tucked into narrow Ngõ Bảo Khánh a couple of minutes from Hoàn Kiếm Lake. It is a small, unpretentious place that has served as the city's main gay meeting point for years — a mix of local men and travellers, cheap drinks and a chatty, come-as-you-are atmosphere. It is not a dance club and the room is modest, but as the scene's longest-running fixture it is the obvious first stop for a low-key evening.
BirdCage
BirdCage is Hanoi's underground gay club, out along Đê Quai on the southern edge of the West Lake district. It runs mainly on Friday and Saturday nights, with deep house and dance music and a crowd that keeps going into the small hours. Gay-owned and spread by word of mouth, it is more of a proper late-night dance party than a polished lounge — check its social media for the current schedule, then head north for the one night Hanoi really lets loose.

Getting There
Hanoi traffic is intense, so use Grab (cars or motorbikes) to move between venues — it is cheap, reliable and priced up front. Taxis are fine too; just make sure the meter is running or agree a price first.
Vibe & Timing
Thursday to Saturday are the liveliest nights, with drag and DJ sets at R7 and dancing at BirdCage. Expect a warm, mixed crowd of locals and travellers, and a music mix of Vietnamese and Western pop plus electronic dance. English is widely understood at the tourist-facing venues.
Safety
Hanoi is generally safe. Keep an eye on your belongings in crowded areas, stick to well-lit streets late at night, and use a ride-hailing app to get home. The gay venues here are known for being relaxed and inclusive.
