Last verified: November 2026. Guadalajara has one of Mexico's biggest gay bar scenes and very few gay hotels. Only one property in our listings markets itself as gay, Casa Alebrijes Gay Hotel on Calle Libertad. It is a small house for gay men, lesbians and friends, and its 2026 trading status needs confirming before you book. Gay directories also list a few small gay-owned guesthouses and one men-only, clothing-optional house in the centre, but we could not confirm any of them for 2026, so we name them without recommending them. Everything else is mainstream: decent mid-range hotels on Avenida Juárez, colonial courtyard hotels near the cathedral, a DoubleTree, and quieter boutique houses in Colonia Americana. The clubs pack into a tight grid of Centro streets around Prisciliano Sánchez, Ocampo, Madero and Pedro Moreno, so where you sleep matters more than the brand on the door. This guide covers walking minutes from each hotel to the bars, which blocks to avoid at 3 am, the lodging tax, the two June Pride marches, the first Pan American Pride (10–19 June 2027), getting back from the airport and the clubs, and where to get PEP.
Pick by trip style
| Stay style | Hotels | Walk to the Centro gay blocks | Walk to Av. Chapultepec (Americana) | Who it suits and the watch-out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The gay-run stay | Casa Alebrijes Gay Hotel | 5–6 min | 31–35 min (taxi) | Anyone who wants gay hosts and a short walk home. Small, few rooms, check-in arranged in person. Confirm it is still trading before you pay. |
| On the strip | Hotel Vista Hermosa, Hotel Portobelo | 3–5 min | 24–30 min | Club nights, short stays, no taxis needed. Avenida Juárez is a busy road, so ask for a room off the street side. |
| Courtyards and a pool, south-east of the bars | Hotel Morales, Hotel Real de Castilla | 8–13 min | 35–40 min | Sightseeing by day, bars by night. Morales has a heated pool and Eagle GDL almost next door. |
| Chain and historic, near the cathedral | DoubleTree by Hilton Centro Histórico, Hotel Francés, Hotel Plaza Génova | 9–17 min | 36–44 min | Points collectors, first-timers, anyone who wants a gym or a rooftop bar. Late at night the walk back crosses quiet blocks, so take an app car after 2 am. |
| Quiet Americana and Lafayette | Villa Ganz, Hotel Consulado, Casa Vilasanta | 7–35 min | 4–22 min | Longer stays, couples, cafés and cocktails over clubbing. From Villa Ganz or Consulado, Centro means a taxi each way. |
| Budget | Casa Vilasanta, Hotel Gallo | 7–8 min / 26–28 min | 20–22 min / 55 min | Vilasanta sits between both scenes. Gallo is cheap but east of Calzada Independencia, by the market, and grim to walk at night. |
| Out west, with a pool | Hotel Velvet Plaza | about 50 min (taxi) | 20–22 min | Business trips, or anyone who wants a pool and a spa and doesn't mind taxis. Nowhere near the Centro clubs. |
Where to sleep, in real minutes
Guadalajara has two gay zones, and they are about 2 km apart. The bigger one, and the one that stays open latest, is a grid in the Zona Centro west of the cathedral. Take Avenida Juárez as the northern edge and Prisciliano Sánchez as the southern one, and you have the core between Calzada del Federalismo and Calle Colón. On Prisciliano Sánchez alone you get Caudillos at 407, Isabella Club at 396 and Xico Antrx at 437. Green Light is on Madero 494, Six Colors on Enrique González Martínez 177 and Gozadera on López Cotilla 611. Further north, California's is at the corner of 8 de Julio and Pedro Moreno, and Babel is on Morelos 741. East of Colón are Eagle GDL (Prisciliano Sánchez 163), Equilibrio on Ocampo and the vaquero club Condado Vaquero on Colón 440. Two saunas, Club El Arenal (Leandro Valle 944) and Polari (Pedro Rioseco 9), sit at the southern edge of the grid.
The second zone is Colonia Americana and Lafayette, around Avenida Chapultepec. It is leafier and younger, with more cocktails than cumbia. It has SinFin Cantina, Envy on Avenida de la Paz, La Casa de las Flores on Hidalgo, Voltio on Mexicaltzingo and Sauna Disco on Hidalgo 1465. The city is flat, so minutes are honest minutes. Danger at night is about empty streets, not hills.

Avenida Juárez, west end: the closest beds to the bars
Hotel Vista Hermosa (Juárez 596) is 1–2 min from California's in our listings and 4–5 min from the middle of the Centro cluster. Hotel Portobelo (Juárez 687) is 3 min from Babel and 3–5 min from the cluster. Portobelo has the stronger reviews (4.6 from about 3,800). Both are plain, functional mid-range hotels whose real selling point is the short walk home. Line 2 of the light rail runs under Juárez, which is handy by day. The downside is traffic noise, and on a June Saturday the Guadalajara Pride march has used this avenue (see the calendar section). At 3 am the stretch of Juárez between Federalismo and 8 de Julio still has taxis and people coming out of the clubs. Stay on the avenue and the lit corners rather than cutting through the side streets north of Morelos.
Casa Vilasanta (Rayón 170) is just west of Federalismo, on the Americana side. It is 6 min from the cruise club La Estación and 7–8 min from the Centro cluster. That makes it the only bed in our listings that sits between both scenes: Chapultepec is a 20–22 min walk the other way. Crossing Federalismo at night is the one stretch to do briskly. It is a wide road with the light-rail cutting underneath and not much life after 1 am.
South-east of the bars: Colón, Ramón Corona and the cathedral blocks
Casa Alebrijes is on Libertad 1016, south of the grid. It is 2–3 min from the El Arenal sauna and 5–6 min from the cluster's centre. The streets here are residential and quiet, which suits sleeping and also means fewer people around at 4 am.
Hotel Morales (Ramón Corona 243) is a restored 19th-century building with an arcaded courtyard and a heated outdoor pool. It is about 1 min from Eagle GDL, the closest pairing of hotel and gay bar in our listings, and 11–13 min from the Prisciliano Sánchez clubs further west. Hotel Real de Castilla (Colón 184) is 3–4 min from Caudillos and 8–9 min from the cluster. From both, the walk back along Prisciliano Sánchez is straight and usually busy on Friday and Saturday nights.
North of Juárez, nearer the cathedral, are DoubleTree by Hilton (Colón 73), 9–11 min from the cluster, and Hotel Francés (Maestranza 35), 13–15 min. The DoubleTree has a gym and a top-floor bar with a terrace. Francés, often described as the city's oldest hotel, has a covered colonial courtyard. Its courtyard bar can be loud, and older rooms are dark, so ask before you book. Hotel Plaza Génova (Juárez 123) is 15–17 min out. After about 2 am, the plazas around the cathedral empty and these walks get lonely. Spend the few pesos on an app ride.

East of Calzada Independencia: cheap, but not at night
Hotel Gallo (Gigantes 287) is in San Juan de Dios, by the big market. It is 3–4 min from the traditional bathhouse Baños San Martín and 26–28 min from the bar cluster. By day it is busy and practical. At night the streets around the market and the bus stops along Independencia are the part of central Guadalajara locals tell visitors to avoid on foot. Don't walk home from the bars to here. Take a car, door to door.
Colonia Americana and Lafayette: the quiet side
Villa Ganz (López Cotilla 1739) is a small converted house with very high reviews (4.8). It is 4–5 min from Avenida Chapultepec and about 8 min from Sauna Disco. Hotel Consulado (López Cotilla 1405) is 3–5 min from Chapultepec and 6–7 min from Sauna Disco. It is an ordinary city hotel (3.9). From either one, the Centro cluster is a 25–35 min walk, so plan on a taxi each way on club nights. Americana is the better choice for a week-long stay: there are cafés and restaurants, the evenings are calmer, and the residential streets are reasonable on foot until late. Chapultepec itself stays lively on weekends.

Arcos Vallarta: the business option
Hotel Velvet Plaza (Vallarta 2477) has a pool, spa and gym, and 4.6 from almost 3,000 reviews. It is 14–15 min from Renacer Day Spa and about 20 min from Chapultepec, but nearly 4 km from the Centro clubs. It's fine for a conference week. It's the wrong base for a Pride weekend.
Gay-owned, men-only and clothing-optional
Casa Alebrijes Gay Hotel is the only property in our listings that markets itself as gay. It describes itself as a boutique hotel for gay men, women and friends, about two blocks from the bars. It has a garden with a balcony and serves a continental breakfast. A gay travel directory profiled it as gay-owned in 2020, and Spartacus lists 2 suites and 7 rooms. It is still sold on major booking platforms. We could not confirm its 2026 status from the hotel's own channels, so message the hotel before you pay. It is not men-only, and we found no published day-pass or non-guest policy.
A 2026 gay accommodation directory also lists several places we could not verify:
- La Perla: a gay guesthouse in a historic house.
- Maska Mansion Gay Hotel: described as a six-room, gay-owned hotel in the historic centre.
- An unnamed five-room gay hotel in the centre.
- A men-only, clothing-optional guesthouse in the centre. We could not establish which property this is or whether it still trades.
- Marcha del Orgullo Guadalajara is organised by the city's long-standing collectives. In 2026 it was on Saturday 6 June, setting off at 2 pm from the Minerva roundabout. The traditional route runs along López Mateos and Avenida Hidalgo to Plaza de la Liberación behind the cathedral.
- Guadalajara Pride followed on Saturday 13 June 2026. In 2025 that march started at Andador Alcalde (Juárez at 16 de Septiembre) and went along Juárez to Parque Revolución.
- Fine with company: Juárez between Federalismo and Colón, Prisciliano Sánchez and López Cotilla through the bar grid, and Chapultepec on weekend nights.
- Taxi instead: anything east of Calzada Independencia (San Juan de Dios, the market), the empty plazas around the cathedral after 2 am, the Federalismo underpasses, and any walk over 15 min.
- PEP must be started within 72 hours of the risk.
- Where to go: Mesón A.C., Calle San Felipe 637, Zona Centro, a short walk north of Juárez. It is open Monday to Friday, 10:00–18:00, and you need an appointment by WhatsApp on 33 2181 3712. Bring your passport.
- Also: CHECCOS, the long-running HIV NGO, has run a PrEP programme by appointment. The Hospital Civil Fray Antonio Alcalde houses a specialised HIV and STI centre.
- Meet first in a bar.
- Don't accept an open drink.
- Bring the date to your hotel, where reception sees him, rather than going to an unknown address.
- Keep phone and cards out of sight in the room.
None of these is linked here. Treat all of them as "confirm before booking". Ask directly about the men-only rule and nudity in common areas, and get the answer in writing.
The same directory names a few mainstream hotels as gay-friendly: Ekléctic Hotel Boutique (adults only, just off Chapultepec), Love It Signature Hotel near Chapultepec, Hotel Clarum 101 in Chapalita (reported as having gay staff and hosting same-sex weddings), Baruk in Chapalita and Six Hotel Degollado in the centre. Chapalita is a long way from both gay zones.
The city has no gay beach and no clothing-optional resort. Men-only space in Guadalajara means the saunas: El Arenal, Polari, Baños Guadalajara on Federalismo Sur, Baños San Martín, Riilax, Sauna Disco and Renacer. Most gay visitors stay in ordinary hotels on Juárez or in Americana, and nobody blinks.

Booking rules that bite
ID at check-in. Mexican hotels routinely photocopy a passport for every registered guest. Overseas visitors may also be asked for the immigration record they received on arrival.
Visitors. Centro hotels vary. Some ask a non-registered visitor to leave ID at reception, some charge to add a second guest, and a few refuse visitors after a set hour. Policies are rarely printed, and night staff apply them unevenly. The golden tip applies: book the room for 2 guests on the booking site, even if you arrive alone. The difference is usually small, and nobody then has a "visitor" question to ask.
Lodging tax. Jalisco charges a state lodging tax, the Impuesto Sobre Hospedaje. For years it was 3%. The hotel industry proposed raising it to 4% in 2025 and 5% in 2026. 2026 tax trackers disagree on the current rate: 3% and 4% are both cited. Budget for 3–5% plus 16% IVA (VAT). Check whether a rate says "impuestos incluidos" or "más impuestos", because the gap is roughly 20%. There are no resort fees in the Centro hotels listed here.
Deposits and cancellation. Small guesthouses often ask for a bank transfer or a non-refundable deposit. Pay by card through a platform where you can, so you have some recourse if the place has closed. For the June 2027 window, expect stricter non-refundable terms and minimum stays. Read the rules before you book.
Smoking. Mexico's tobacco law bans smoking in enclosed public places, and hotels charge a cleaning penalty for smoking in rooms. Ask the amount if it matters to you.
The gay calendar and where to book for it

June Pride: two marches, a week apart
Guadalajara holds two marches each June.
Neither organiser has announced 2027 dates as of November 2026: Guadalajara Pride 2027 is TBA. The pattern is two consecutive Saturdays in early-to-mid June. In 2027 the marches may be folded into, or timed around, Pan American Pride, but nobody has published how.
Where to book: the Juárez hotels (Vista Hermosa, Portobelo) for the march that uses Juárez and the after-parties in the bar grid. Casa Alebrijes and Morales for something quieter that's still walkable. Americana if you want Chapultepec's terrace bars and a taxi to the clubs. Expect road closures on Juárez and Hidalgo on march afternoons, and arrive the day before.
Orgullo Panamericano, 10–19 June 2027
Pan American Pride is billed as the first continental Pride of the Americas. Its first edition runs in Guadalajara from 10 to 19 June 2027, and the organisers plan to repeat it every two years in a different city. The announced programme includes a human rights forum, cultural events, music festivals and a pride march. The organisers have not published venues, host hotels or a march date as of November 2026.
Ten days of international visitors in a city with one confirmed gay hotel means the small, walkable Centro stock will go first. If you are set on Casa Alebrijes or a Juárez hotel, booking in the first quarter of 2027 on a refundable rate is sensible. Then adjust once the march date and party venues are published. The DoubleTree and the Americana boutiques will hold out longer but will price up.

Other dates that move hotel prices
Guadalajara's international book fair (FIL) fills hotels in late November and early December, especially near Expo Guadalajara and in the Centro. Check this year's dates before booking for that window. We found no confirmed bear week or circuit weekend for Guadalajara in the next 12 months. Many of the city's gay nights run on the clubs' own social media, so check those the week you arrive.
Getting back at 3 am
From the airport. Miguel Hidalgo International (GDL) is south of the city, roughly 30 min by car to the Centro outside rush hour and longer at peak times. The simple option is the authorised airport taxi: you pay at the booth inside arrivals and get a printed ticket. Confirm the fare to your hotel's colonia at the counter before paying, because zones and prices change. Uber and DiDi operate in the city, but app pickups at Mexican airports have been disputed, so check in-app where pickups are currently allowed. Late arrivals should take a ticketed taxi, not someone who approaches you in the hall.
From the bars. The light rail, including Line 2 under Juárez, stops long before the clubs do, so after midnight it's a car. Uber and DiDi both work well in Guadalajara and are the norm for locals leaving the clubs. Order from inside the bar, check the plate before you get in, and share the trip with a friend. Street taxis queue outside the bigger Centro clubs. Agree the fare first if there's no meter.
Walking, street by street.
Leave the expensive watch in the room. Armed thefts of luxury watches made local news in 2025, though not in the gay zones.

Health, safety and the law
The law. Same-sex marriage is legal across Mexico, enforced in every state since 2022, and federal law prohibits discrimination. A hotel cannot lawfully refuse two men a double bed. If it happens, Unión Diversa de Jalisco in the Zona Centro handles discrimination cases.
PEP and PrEP. Jalisco's state HIV programme (COESIDA) offers both for free to people without Mexican social security, after an assessment.
Over a weekend, go to a hospital emergency department and ask for "profilaxis post exposición". Don't wait until Monday if the 72 hours would run out.
App dates. Local press has reported gangs nicknamed "goteros" who used Grindr to drug and rob men, with at least 60 victims counted in Jalisco in the late 2010s. We found no newer, dated incident in 2025–2026 reporting. The rules haven't changed:
Booking for 2 guests makes the reception moment painless.
Drugs. Mexico tolerates possession of tiny personal amounts and treats anything above that as a criminal matter. There is no legal retail cannabis market, and smoking it in public can still get you detained. GHB, meth and ketamine at chemsex quantities are serious offences. Hotels that find drugs or damage will charge, call the police, or both.
Smoking and vapes. Smoking is banned in enclosed public spaces, and Mexico has prohibited the sale of vapes. Leave yours at home.
Public decency and outdoor cruising. Guadalajara's police code covers public sexual conduct, and an arrest means a fine or a night in a cell. The outdoor cruising at Parque Huentitán and the barranca, on the northern edge of the city, is remote and isolated. Visitors are safer in the saunas and in La Estación.
Cartel blockades. Jalisco has periodic cartel-related road blockades (narcobloqueos), sometimes with vehicles set alight. Visitors are not the target. If one happens, stay in your hotel, follow staff advice and local news, and don't try to drive to the airport through it.
Three picks

Budget: Casa Vilasanta
Casa Vilasanta is an inexpensive guesthouse on Rayón. It is 7–8 min from the Centro bar grid and about 20 min from Chapultepec, which suits a Guadalajara trip where you want both scenes on one budget. Expect simple rooms. Prices vary by season, so confirm before booking.
Mid-range: Hotel Morales
Hotel Morales combines a 19th-century courtyard, a heated pool, 4.6 from about 2,800 reviews and Eagle GDL around the corner. Caudillos and the Prisciliano Sánchez clubs are a straight 11–13 min walk on a lit street. If you want a gay-run house instead, and it confirms it is trading, Casa Alebrijes is the alternative at a similar distance.

Splurge: DoubleTree by Hilton Centro Histórico or Villa Ganz
Choose by which half of the scene you're there for. For the clubs, the DoubleTree on Colón has the gym, the rooftop terrace, chain non-discrimination policies and a 9–11 min walk to the bars. For Chapultepec dinners and a quiet bed, Villa Ganz is the best-reviewed small hotel in our listings, 4–5 min from the avenue.
Frequently asked

Is there a gay hotel in Guadalajara?
Casa Alebrijes on Calle Libertad markets itself as a hotel for gay men, lesbians and friends, about 5–6 min from the bar cluster. Confirm it is still trading before you pay. A few other small gay guesthouses appear in directories but are unverified for 2026.
Is there a men-only or clothing-optional hotel in Guadalajara?
One men-only, clothing-optional guesthouse in the centre is listed in a 2026 directory, but we could not confirm its name or that it operates. The verified men-only spaces are the saunas and La Estación.

Which hotel is closest to the gay bars?
Hotel Morales is about 1 min from Eagle GDL. Hotel Vista Hermosa is 1–2 min from California's and 4–5 min from the middle of the Centro cluster. Portobelo is 3–5 min.
Centro or Colonia Americana?
Centro if you're there for the clubs and want to walk home. Americana if you prefer cafés, cocktail bars and quiet nights, and don't mind a taxi to the bigger clubs.

How much is the hotel tax in Guadalajara?
Jalisco's lodging tax was 3% for years. A rise to 4–5% was proposed for 2025–2026, and 2026 sources cite both 3% and 4%. Add 16% IVA unless the rate says taxes are included.
Can I bring a guest back to my hotel?
Usually yes, but many hotels will ask for his ID at reception, and some charge or set hours. Book for 2 guests from the start and the question never comes up.
When is Guadalajara Pride 2027?
The 2027 march dates are not announced as of November 2026. Pan American Pride is confirmed for 10–19 June 2027 in Guadalajara.
