Richmond Pride es el festival anual LGBTQ+ en Brown''s Island y la ribera del centro: un escenario que aprovecha la geografía industrial del río James, con el canal walk, la central hidroeléctrica y el histórico Mayo Bridge como telón de fondo, para crear uno de los entornos del orgullo visualmente más distintivos de la costa este. El evento reúne unas 20.000 personas cada octubre para un fin de semana de actuaciones, programación de organizaciones comunitarias y la celebración de una ciudad cuya comunidad LGBTQ+ ha ganado en visibilidad y confianza junto a la transformación más amplia de la imagen de Richmond. La fecha de octubre aprovecha el bello otoño del James y sitúa a Richmond Pride entre los últimos grandes eventos LGBTQ+ de la temporada en la costa este. Brown''s Island —una isla fluvial plana a la que se accede por un puente peatonal— ofrece un recinto natural y contenido, con agua a varios lados y la silueta del centro visible desde el escenario principal. Richmond Pride ha crecido de forma sostenida en los últimos años a medida que la cultura progresista de la ciudad se ha desarrollado y la retirada de los monumentos confederados ha marcado un nuevo capítulo en la relación de Richmond con su propia historia.
