Richmond Pride ist das jährliche LGBTQ+-Festival auf Brown's Island und an der Uferpromenade — ein Schauplatz, der die industriegeschichtliche Geografie des James River nutzt, mit Canal Walk, Wasserkraftwerk und der historischen Mayo Bridge als Kulisse, und eine der optisch markantesten Pride-Locations der Ostküste schafft. Das Event zieht jeden Oktober rund 20.000 Menschen für ein Wochenende voller Auftritte, Community-Programm und der Feier einer Stadt, deren LGBTQ+-Community parallel zum breiteren Selbstbild-Wandel Richmonds an Sichtbarkeit und Selbstvertrauen gewonnen hat. Der Oktober-Termin nutzt das schöne Herbstwetter am James River und stellt Richmond Pride unter die letzten großen LGBTQ+-Events der Ostküste-Saison. Brown's Island — eine flache Flussinsel über eine Fußgängerbrücke erreichbar — bietet ein natürlich abgeschlossenes Festivalgelände mit Wasser auf mehreren Seiten und der Skyline Downtown Richmonds vom Hauptbühnenpunkt aus. Richmond Pride ist in den letzten Jahren stetig gewachsen, parallel zur Entwicklung der progressiven Kultur der Stadt und zur Entfernung von Konföderierten-Denkmälern, die ein neues Kapitel in Richmonds Verhältnis zur eigenen Geschichte signalisiert hat.
