Il Richmond Pride è il festival LGBTQ+ annuale a Brown's Island e sul lungofiume del centro — un setting che usa la geografia industriale del James River, con il canal walk, l'impianto idroelettrico e lo storico Mayo Bridge come sfondo, per creare uno degli ambienti pride più visivamente distintivi della East Coast. Ogni ottobre richiama circa 20.000 persone per un weekend di performance, programmazione comunitaria e celebrazione di una città la cui comunità LGBTQ+ è cresciuta in visibilità e sicurezza in parallelo alla trasformazione dell'immagine di Richmond. La data di ottobre sfrutta il bel clima autunnale del James River e colloca il pride tra gli ultimi grandi eventi LGBTQ+ della stagione East Coast. Brown's Island — un'isola fluviale piatta raggiungibile da un ponte pedonale — è un sito festivaliero naturale e contenuto, con l'acqua su più lati e lo skyline del centro visibile dal main stage. Il Richmond Pride è cresciuto costantemente negli ultimi anni con lo sviluppo della cultura progressista cittadina e la rimozione dei monumenti confederati che ha segnato un nuovo capitolo nel rapporto della città con la propria storia.
