O Richmond Pride é o festival LGBTQ+ anual na Brown's Island e na orla do centro — cenário que usa a geografia industrial do rio James, com o canal walk, a usina hidrelétrica e a histórica Mayo Bridge ao fundo, para criar um dos ambientes mais distintos da Costa Leste. O evento atrai cerca de 20 mil pessoas todo outubro para um fim de semana de performances, programação de organizações comunitárias e celebração de uma cidade cuja comunidade LGBTQ+ ganhou visibilidade e confiança ao lado da transformação mais ampla da autoimagem de Richmond. O calendário de outubro aproveita o belo clima de outono do rio James e coloca o evento entre os últimos grandes festivais da temporada na Costa Leste. A Brown's Island — ilha plana acessada por passarela — oferece sítio festivo naturalmente contido, com água em volta e o skyline visível do palco principal. O Richmond Pride vem crescendo de forma constante à medida que a cultura progressista da cidade se desenvolve e a remoção de monumentos confederados sinaliza um novo capítulo na relação de Richmond com a própria história.
