Richmond Pride est le festival LGBTQ+ annuel à Brown's Island et sur le front de fleuve du centre-ville — un cadre qui exploite la géographie industrielle de la James River, avec le canal walk, la centrale hydroélectrique et le Mayo Bridge historique pour créer l'un des décors les plus singuliers de pride sur la côte Est. L'événement réunit environ 20 000 personnes chaque mois d'octobre pour un week-end de performances, de programmes associatifs et la célébration d'une ville dont la communauté LGBTQ+ a gagné en visibilité et en assurance en même temps que Richmond redessinait son image. Le calendrier d'octobre profite de la belle météo automnale sur la James River et place Richmond Pride parmi les dernières grandes prides de la saison côte Est. Brown's Island — île fluviale plate accessible par passerelle piétonne — offre un site festival naturellement délimité, eau de plusieurs côtés et skyline de Richmond en arrière-plan. La pride a grandi régulièrement ces dernières années à mesure que la culture progressiste de la ville s'est développée et que le retrait des monuments confédérés a signalé un nouveau chapitre dans le rapport de Richmond à sa propre histoire.
