About this place La Démence @ Fuse

La Démence is not a venue but an event — the most important word in Brussels' gay calendar, and one of the most significant in Europe's. Since 1990, on the first Sunday of each month, La Démence has occupied the Fuse nightclub and transformed it into an international circuit party that draws gay men from across Belgium and from cities as far as London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Berlin. The event has been running continuously for over 35 years — through the AIDS crisis, through the transformation of club culture, through every iteration of the international circuit party scene — and has not declined in reputation or attendance. The crowd is predominantly gay male, international, and circuit-oriented: muscle shirts, spectacular lighting, professional DJs, and the social culture of men who travel for this experience. La Démence is serious about its music — the DJs are booked because they are good, not because they are famous — and serious about its community: the monthly regulars who have been coming for ten or twenty years form the social backbone around which the international visitors circulate. For LGBTQ+ visitors to Brussels, coordinating a trip with a La Démence Sunday is not merely recommended — for many, it is the primary reason for coming.
