Sauna Spades 4

I went here for the first time on an afternoon (Feb. 26). I hesitated for a long time before going because of some of the negative reviews online, but I experienced the opposite. Hence this review to rectify that and give other first-timers a clear picture. The front door is open, allowing you to discreetly enter directly through a second door. A friendly welcome from the staff. Everything was explained and self-explanatory. Payment was also made correctly afterward. You can pay with cards and cash. You receive two keys along with two towels. The first key is for a small safe at the cash register for storing valuables. The second is for the clothes locker. You wear the keys around your leg or something. Changing rooms are located on the top floor. Be sure to bring your own slippers! This is the only negative point. The steps have screws to hold the bumpers in place, which can cut you. Inside, it is neatly finished and pleasantly warm (it was 10°C outside at the time). The bar, sauna, steam room, pool, jacuzzi—all clean, attractive, and very inviting. No old-fashioned touches. I was there in the afternoon. There were only older people there, which wasn't my cup of tea, and a few interesting guys. Around 6 p.m., a flurry of nice people started arriving. I'm 45 and very fit. I got a lot of attention from young and old. So, it was fun. The jacuzzi and pool aren't huge, but they're big enough, clean, and very pleasant. The jacuzzi is often well-stocked and overlooks the pool and steam room. You can also make contact underwater there. The steam room isn't really a steam room, but more of a dark room where a lot happens. Several men come out stiffly :-) The sauna can accommodate three people lying down or several sitting upright. It can be used as a sauna because it's 70°C. Ideal for me. People also play games there. I visited the other floors (sling, cage, darkroom, cinema, fitness), but not much was happening there. So, my doubts were completely unfounded. The staff was incredibly approachable, diverse (in terms of age and body type), and respectful. It's a good size, well-maintained, clean, and the staff is very pleasant. I understand there are new owners who have renovated and relaunched the place. Well done! It has everything for a pleasant experience. I will definitely be back.

The previous one went bankrupt. This one has reopened with a new owner who has invested a great deal of time and effort in renovating the place, particularly regarding safety and hygiene. All baths are fully supplied with fresh water after closing time and after the rooms have been cleaned. Therefore, the sauna only opens at 1 p.m. to get everything warm again. Air conditioning and dehumidification systems everywhere, along with the dangerous situations, are gone. The chlorine fumes, which were downright dangerous, are also gone. Visually, it has remained the same, even a bit smaller in places. It's a shame, but everything from the floor (creaking moldy floor upstairs), bar, to ceiling has been replaced.

Finally, good news: the ('renovated') sauna is back open. Other name: spades4gents. Search for reviews under that name. My 1-star rating is based on the period before the reopening. For a new rating: see spades4gents reviews. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What was once the number one sauna is following in the footsteps of its Brussels counterpart: poor maintenance, unexpected closures, and ultimately, a likely complete closure. Only a lack of competition in the immediate area is keeping them afloat for a while. Update: And now indeed 'permanently' closed. However, new owners are reportedly renovating the sauna. When will it reopen? No idea. Update 20/08: From the outside, there's no sign of any renovation work. Still the same "permanently closed" sign. An early reopening seems more like wishful thinking. Update: Once again, the sauna is said to be reopening soon; this month. There's even a new website now: spades4gents.be (note the 's'). Maybe it's for real this time. Update again: while until recently they dared to predict an opening date (first September, later December), that's no longer the case. The definitive closure is increasingly being taken literally. Update dated April 23, 2025. The following has been stated on the new website for some time now: "March 5, 2025 A lot of people are curious when the sauna would open. Therefore, here's an overview of the work still to be done. I will update this list weekly to better inform you." Unfortunately, after almost two months, none of those weekly updates have arrived. RIP spades 4. Update dated July 8, 2025 The new owners have posted another update on their website: they now hope to be able to open by the end of the summer. (I would interpret the term "summer" very broadly.) Update: September 24, 2025 The reopening was planned for September 1st. It wasn't met, postponed to October 1st, but that won't happen either. A great example of a "never-ending story."

I heard from someone that it's reopened. Apparently, a lot of the technology has been updated. However, at first glance, everything seems to be the same. The entrance fee is supposedly 30 euros.

Yes, Spades 4our is open again. I'm going later.

On 17.09.24, the Commercial Court of Ghent declared the bankruptcy of the company Gental BV, which was behind sauna Spades4our. Reference: 478309770 Given the not-so-good reputation built up by the previous operator(s), the chance is extremely small to non-existent that anyone would want to take over this business, let alone use the name Spades 4our.

New BV predicts new opening. Logical that the new owner does not take over the unhealthy BV. Just be patient.

Has this sauna reopened or not?

Way too expensive for what it is! Small sauna, lots of noise... So it's a done deal to go there again. 3/03/23 What's the situation now?? Is it staying closed? Or is that junkie in rehab? Or is the whole thing being shut down... they won't keep this up for long. They really should offer something new for a change... treating customers like this... and then expecting everyone to go back when it's open. Is the sauna reopening on 18/08 now??? And which Facebook page of the sauna? It's dead there just like the info going around about it. .22/10 still closed they'll have to hurry if it has to reopen again... fairytale🦄 DID A RESEARCH THE BUSINESS IS UPSIDE DOWN BECAUSE THEY ARE UNDER CURATORS.

Think of a NEW NAME and go for a fresh start. Currently, it's very unclear where to look for accurate information.
