Located in an old monastery, making every room truly unique. Parking available, which is important in the center of Ghent.

Very nice room and very good location

Absolutely loved my five night stay at Monasterium PoortAckere. Brilliant location. Quick walk to historical squares, beautiful bridges over the canals, imposing churches and the counts castle. Yet a peaceful oasis. The breakfasts are a feast and the small bar a lovely place to wind down after a day of sight seeing. Many rooms are newly refurbished. My bed was super comfy and the Rombouts coffee in the rooms a treat. Im grateful at the effort on preserving and repurposing this beautiful heritage building.

Quiet, beautiful hotel with excellent rooms and nice buffet breakfast. I do mean quiet. My family was all whispering because it was just that serene.

A very neat and pleasant hotel, but receptionist Bieke still has a lot to learn from her young female colleague, who was very helpful and friendly. Not wishing 'hello' and gruffly washing down a mouthful of frangipane with a cup of coffee is, in my opinion, not the proper etiquette for such a classy hotel... A pity.

A weekend in Ghent (1 overnight stay). A beautiful location, centrally situated near the city center and parking (which, by the way, cost 34 euros for 1 night 😬). We "knew" about this location via Facebook, and thanks to sites like TripAdvisor, photos of the rooms in particular were the reason we booked this. The location is beautiful; the chapel, breakfast room, and the corridors in a certain wing make you feel like you are in a monastery. However, our room was a renovated room, fully equipped with all conveniences, but a wooden panel nailed to the wall doesn't make it a truly monastic feel. This room could have been in any random hotel. The bathroom had a nice large shower area with a rain shower but was otherwise small, with a toilet "crammed in." Here too (and I consider this a downside in many hotels), there was space under the sink, but nowhere a shelf or anything similar to store your toiletries. How difficult is it to put a cabinet or something under there? The beds were very comfortable. The room was dark enough thanks to the long curtains. The bed was actually set up as two single beds. Made up as two individual beds. It was also very quiet at night. The TV channels are minimal. For Dutch channels like Ned 1 and 3. In today's world, where we have stayed in hotels where you can even log in with your own Netflix account, that is a bit outdated. Breakfast on Sunday morning could be enjoyed until 11 am. Pleasant. The buffet was very complete, with various rolls and bread, sweet pastries, yogurt and more, cheeses, cold cuts, various prepared egg dishes—too much to mention—good coffee, fresh juice, etc., etc. Constant replenishment of the buffet. For us, it was a top-notch breakfast and we certainly enjoyed it. One downside, and not just for this hotel room... a hook for your coat. The weather is nice now, but if it rains, I'm definitely not going to hang my wet coat among my clothes in the wardrobe. Always that hassle with coats you can't find a place to put. In this case, a coat rack near the entrance area would fit perfectly. On the wall or the side of the closet. What is that with hotels? Do they think you're coming without a coat? At home, you hang yours on the coat rack, don't you? Tip: a folding rack for your small suitcase? Handy! Did we enjoy our trip to Ghent? Absolutely. A lovely city with lots of hustle and bustle, beautiful spots, and magnificent buildings. Plenty of places to eat and drink, shops... It's a shame we didn't sleep in a room I saw in photos. That was a letdown for us. Because we like staying in unique places, and a monastery is one of them. I also have no idea how to book and actually get a room like that. So far, the same option keeps appearing when searching?
