B&B Hotel Gent Centrum

Very good experience and excellent service from the reception staff. It's also very centrally located and close to the train station, within walking distance. The breakfast was also better. If you check out and vacate your room, you can leave your luggage in secure lockers. They have free coffee, tea, and water available at reception.

Loved this place .. can't think of anything bad to say about it and 100% will book again should I ever come back to Ghent .

Hotel is in the city center. It’s about a 15 minute tram ride from gent SP station. Frequent trams, I think was the T1 and T3, don’t take the T4 even though google sometimes suggests it, it takes a lot longer as it goes around the city before getting into the city center. Can tap with CC on white terminal inside tram, EUR3 each way. Lots of space for luggage. Hotel won’t let you check in until 3pm, they offer early check in with a fee, I think it was EUR 15. They also charge for storing luggage, charged by 2 hour blocks in self service lockers. I’ve stayed at over 40 hotels in Europe and not a single one charged for storing luggage so I was a bit disappointed at their business decision to not offer complementary storage for guests as this seems to be a pretty standard service offering by hotels. Their self service lockers I felt were a bit insecure as you had to type in a 6 digit code. The key pad was so big, anyone in the room can see and know the code to open your locker. It was a bit flawed in my opinion. I also witnessed people struggle to open their lockers afterwards and had to go to front desk to get help. Room was basic but adequate however i think there was a bit of a plumbing issue in bathroom as water is bit slow at the faucet to drain. It also smell of sewerage, I think it was coming from the faucet drain. Once the room was aired out, it was okay. But had to constantly do it. The room opens up to an enclosed balcony so you can get some fresh air - there is no balcony to stand on but the door opens. They have aircond too. No fridge in the room. The room is accessible via a 6 digit code, I personally would have preferred it via room key but I think this is standard at all B&B hotels. I think the hotel redeemed themselves for charging for luggage storage with their free coffee machine in the lobby 😅. The machine however I think is due for a service as it splatters out the liquid and can make a bit of a mess. But it does provide quite acceptable coffee. Convenient in the morning when you are heading out and don’t need to look for coffee. There was also a water dispenser but it dispenses so slowly I ended up just buying my own water. There is an Albert H supermarket about a 5 min walk away as well as a proxy supermarket. Albert H bakery did make some good pistachio croissants. The hotel is steps away from all the action in the city centre. Many eateries and shops around. I felt safe the entire time. Overall a good hotel in a good location. I would hope they will offer complementary luggage storage for their guests in the future. Other B&B hotels I stayed at offered free storage, it really doesn’t cost them anything except a room.
