Hostel Mostel
Visitors often praise Hostel Mostel for its excellent location in the city center and good value for money, with some noting friendly staff and the option to store luggage. However, several guests have reported issues with cleanliness, including dirty rooms and unchanged linens, and some experienced problems with electrical outlets and room heating. DO NOT BOOKING THIS PLACE!! SCAM!! We booked a quadruple room more than a month in advance. Upon arrival, we were told the room was not ready at the official check-in time (14:00) and that we had to wait until 17:00. What followed was the worst accommodation experience we have ever had. We were taken outside the main building, about a 10-minute walk away, to a separate property that was clearly still under renovation. The staircase had paint stains, construction materials were left in the hallway, and the entire building looked like an active construction site. Our “room” was absolutely unacceptable: dirty, unfinished, and unfit for any guest. There were four mattresses thrown directly on the floor. The sheets were dirty and had hair on them. The door was unfinished construction, the room was full of dust, insects, and old, filthy mattresses. It was completely unsanitary and unlivable. When we went back to reception to complain, we were told this was actually a volunteer room and not meant to be rented out to guests. Despite this, it had been assigned to us. When we requested a solution, we were told there was nothing they could do. We were forced to request a refund and, late at night, leave the property to find alternative accommodation on our own. The staff showed no responsibility or willingness to help and spoke to us in a dismissive and unprofessional manner. This is by far the worst place we have ever stayed. Completely unacceptable conditions and extremely poor service. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. TOTAL DISASTER. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I am attaching photos as evidence of everything described above.
It is right in the city centre near all the tourist attractions.
Just okay. Room (I got a private room) was not very clean. Lots of hairs everywhere, especially in the bathroom. There was a clump of hairs in the shower, which did not drain properly, meaning I could only take 5 minute showers to avoid flooding the bathroom. Probably could find better for the same price
Stayed there in June 2026. Lovely place. Large common areas to meet other travelers if going solo. Guitar and pool table available too. The common area is large enough to allow for working or finding privacy if that's your need. The staff are all super nice and helpful. Good kitchen too, and lots of affordable eats and grocery shop options nearby. Very close to the Vitosha street too, arguably the center of the tourist area. Oh, and there's always tea ready to serve, really good one too!
Extremely loud room cleaning at sleep time! Great location.
Good value for the money if you aren't a light sleeper. The floor was extremely creaky, and all the bunk beds and their structures were connected and made of wood. Even though they looked sturdy, the slightest movement was enough to make them creak in a really annoying way. As a result, if you had someone in the nearby bed who moved in their sleep or got up often during the night, it made it practically impossible to sleep. At least that was my experience for seven nights, during which I probably managed to sleep through only two or three of them. Continuing with the negatives, it was stated that there would be air conditioning, but in reality it was never turned on. I was told that it is centrally controlled by the owner, so the staff cannot adjust it. As a result, it was very hot. On the positive side, the staff is very kind and helpful, although cleanliness leaves a bit to be desired. There is also a lack of storage space and surfaces in the bathroom and near the sink, and it would be useful to add a mat, as the shower tends to flood the bathroom. Overall, it’s not bad, especially considering the Continuing with the negatives, it was stated that there would be air conditioning, but in reality it was never turned on.
