About this place Scandic Paasi

Scandic Paasi is a reliably comfortable hotel for LGBTQ+ travelers coming to Helsinki.

You’ll find it in a sturdy old stone building, on a cobblestone street in Kalamaja. It’s a quick three-minute walk to the nearest metro and 15 minutes by foot to Helsinki’s Senate Square. That puts you in easy striking distance of the city’s sights, cultural spots, and gay-friendly areas.

The rooms are modern, with wooden floors, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Breakfast is on the house every morning. If you need more room, some upgraded options come with kitchenettes and balconies looking onto the courtyard. Others have sofas, saunas, and coffee makers. There's also a suite with a separate living room, kitchen, and dining table. Room service is available.

No need to leave for dinner: the hotel has four restaurants. Between the practical amenities, the central spot, and the contemporary feel, it’s a solid home base for seeing Helsinki’s gay scene, the design shops, and the waterfront.

I had one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had at Scandic Hotel Helsinki. The windows in the room do not open, and the air conditioning unit made a constant monotonous noise even when it was turned off. To make matters worse, one of the lights in the room was permanently on and could not be switched off. When I reported the issue to reception, their proposed solution was to remove my key card from the power slot to turn the light off. That would also have cut power to the room, making it impossible to charge my phone or other devices. This seemed like a very impractical suggestion. After I insisted, I was given another room, but unfortunately it was not much better than the first one. Overall, the rooms felt poorly maintained, the solutions offered were inadequate, and the stay was far from comfortable. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend this hotel. Update: The hotel replied that they have Superior rooms with a balcony. This was surprising because during my stay I specifically asked whether any rooms had windows that could be opened and was told no. Had this option been mentioned at the time, it could have addressed one of my main concerns about the room. Unfortunately, this does not change my experience regarding the constant ventilation noise, the light that could not be switched off, and the inadequate solution initially offered by reception.

Had a wonderful stay at Scandic Paasi. The hotel is in a great location, close to public transport and within walking distance of many Helsinki attractions. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, making it easy to relax after a day of exploring. The staff were friendly, professional, and always willing to help. Breakfast offered a wide variety of fresh and tasty options. Overall, the hotel combines excellent service, comfort, and convenience PS- AC doesn’t cool enough at night .

Friendly staff and a delicious breakfast. Parking is available in the parking garage across the street for €15 per day.
