When a seat opens on the benches, if you’re next, have a seat! Then the experience begins. Two main meals on the chalkboard are advertised and made daily. But there’s also a small menu you can ask for. Had the Goi Tom and it was perfectly fresh and spicy - left wanting to come back tomorrow to see what is on the menu!

The food was genuinely very delicious and high quality — I really can’t complain about the taste at all. Unfortunately, the service at the entrance was very unpleasant. When I arrived, the hostess tried to seat me at tables where larger groups of people who clearly belonged together were already sitting. I did not feel comfortable being placed in the middle of another group, and I imagine it would have been awkward for them as well, especially since there were other free tables available. Later, on my way out, I asked another staff member whether it would have been possible to sit at one of the free tables, and he kindly told me that it would have been no problem. Shortly after, the hostess started talking about me with the kitchen staff in her own language in a clearly negative way. Even though I didn’t understand the words, the situation was very obvious and made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome as a guest. Which is a real shame, because the food itself was excellent.

FOOD POISONING // NOT VEGAN After reading the 1-star reviews more closely, it's no longer surprising that I, too, was vomiting up everything shortly after my visit—and this continued for several days. Perhaps the contaminated food also contained animal ingredients that my body hasn't encountered in decades, but that would normally be resolved with a single trip to the toilet. The fact that I vomited for several hours and had diarrhea for days strongly suggests food poisoning. Whether the glass noodle salad could be made vegan (vegetarian without fish sauce would have been sufficient) was mumbled and answered in the affirmative, which is why I didn't give it much thought in a Neukölln restaurant. The food was also far too spicy (even my companion, who tolerates spice well, agreed), nothing special, and apparently not available in a vegetarian/vegan version. It may be that the store was once hyped for good reason, but it is now far surpassed by many higher-quality options in the area!
