About this place Nußbaumerin

Nußbaumerin is where Austrian cooking meets Australian twists, a surprisingly good combination for Berlin. Johanna Nußbaumer, the owner, has run this place since 2008, serving up her family's recipes from back home. Expect dishes that feel familiar, but with a fresh spin. The schnitzel, for instance, is done right – they really pay attention to the details. It's on Leibnizstraße, and the decor is pretty understated, a comfortable setting for dinner with friends or just a quiet meal. They're openly gay-friendly, a good fit for the neighborhood. If you're around during the week, they do lunch Monday through Thursday. It’s a solid choice if you need a proper sit-down meal, not just a grab-and-go. You'll find a menu that’s been put together with thought, whether you're after something traditional or curious about those Australian inflections. Check their site for hours and what's currently on offer.

During the pandemic... ...we had the pleasure of experiencing the warm hospitality of Ms. Nussbaumer and her team. Unfortunately, we were only able to visit again now. So, we embraced the restaurant's motto: "Be hungry, be thirsty, be curious, be warmly welcome." Just like on our first visit, we received a very warm welcome. Our coats were taken by a friendly staff member and placed in the cloakroom. When we left, they were returned to us. Our reserved table was ready and stylishly set. Here, too, we were greeted warmly and attentively by the server from the very beginning. And, it must be mentioned, we were very well looked after from the start to the end of our visit and received expert advice whenever our questions arose. These questions started right away when we ordered drinks. Some of us wanted to enjoy wine, and the staff offered excellent recommendations. The preceding aperitif was also explained very well. Of course, we were also hungry, so we ordered frittata soup and asparagus cream soup as starters. The main course consisted of Viennese beef goulash with bread dumplings, Wiener Schnitzel with warm potato and cucumber salad, Viennese fried chicken with potato and lamb's lettuce salad, and boiled beef with horseradish sauce and roast potatoes. Pumpkin seed parfait with marinated apricots accompanied the set menu. Everything was simply delicious and a real treat! The prices are very reasonable. We would love to come back again – we felt so warmly welcomed!

Fantastic. Cozy location, very good food, and excellent service. The owner of Nussbaumen is incredibly nice and very charming. We always love coming back here.

Excellent Austrian cuisine and a warm, confident hostess. The Wiener Schnitzel was perfectly cooked, the potato salad wonderfully seasoned. The stucco-decorated dining room with its tall wine racks exudes a cozy atmosphere and provided the perfect setting for a delightful evening. Highly recommended!
