Cologne has one of Germany's most active gay scenes. Around Mathiasstraße, the "Bermuda Triangle" of gay bars is one of Europe's most concentrated LGBTQ+ bar streets. You'll find outdoor cruising spots all over the city, and indoor venues too.
Volksgarten Park
This 35-hectare city park has a boating lake, a beer garden, and wooded sections. The green spaces away from the main paths get busy in the evenings and at night. It's easy to reach from the city centre by public transport. The park is big enough that the active areas are separate from the family sections.
Rheinpark
A riverside park along the Rhine, with good views and paths that offer privacy. The riverside paths and more secluded spots get busy, especially in the afternoons and evenings. You can get here by U-Bahn (Deutzer Brücke area).
Grüngürtel (Green Belt)
This is the 8-kilometer green belt around Cologne. It's huge and varied, with many entry and exit points. The wooded sections, further from the main paths, are known meeting spots for the city's gay community.
Indoor Venues
- Station 2B — A city centre men's club with dedicated cruising facilities: mazes, cabins, and dimly lit spaces. They're welcoming to newcomers.
- Phoenix Sauna — Open 24 hours on weekends; it has a steam room, Finnish sauna, whirlpool, and private cabins. This is your late-night option when the parks aren't practical.
- Pullermanns (Mathiasstraße 18-20) — A men-only cruise bar, once called "Hands and Boners." It mostly gets a 35+ crowd. It's part of the Mathiasstraße gay bar district.
The Gay District
The "Bermuda Triangle" is a cluster of gay bars around Mathiasstraße, Schaafenstraße, and nearby streets in central Cologne. Bar hopping here on a Friday or Saturday evening puts you right in the middle of one of Germany's most energetic gay scenes. Cologne Pride (Christopher Street Day) is in July and draws up to a million people. It's one of Germany's biggest Pride events.
