About this place Ludwigs Bier & Brot

This gay-friendly beer hall in Düsseldorf’s Old Town is where locals and visitors actually mix, a rare enough thing.

It’s a real meeting point for anyone, LGBTQ+ or not. You get a good selection of beers and other drinks; it’s the sort of place you can settle into for hours, day or night.

Most beer halls don’t do weekend breakfast, but this one does, so you can start your day here too. The vibe is casual, social, easy. If you want to meet people, or just get a sense of Düsseldorf's gay scene, this is it.

It’s a straightforward neighborhood place that wants everyone to feel welcome. You’ll find it at 11 Mertensgasse, easy to spot in the Old Town. It’s unpretentious, reflecting Düsseldorf’s approach to LGBTQ+ hospitality: truly inclusive, not just for one crowd.

I visited this place over the weekend with a diverse group and we can highly recommend this small but excellent shop. You can even get snacks like raw minced pork sandwiches late at night – wow, how awesome! The service was funny and totally awesome, exactly our kind of humor. Thanks again for the great evening! :)

Yesterday, we went to this bar with a large group and spent a lot of money – unfortunately, the experience was simply disappointing. The service was abysmal: unfriendly staff, constant disapproving looks, and an overall very unpleasant atmosphere. The tone was often disrespectful and sometimes downright rude. I've rarely experienced anything like it. You simply don't feel welcome there. It got even worse at the end: shortly before closing time, I just wanted to quickly use the restroom, but a waiter told me to leave in an extremely rude and aggressive manner. This behavior was absolutely unacceptable. I really cannot recommend this bar at all.

From my personal experience: My wife and I went to have a few drinks, but unfortunately the bar tender was extremely racist and refused to serve us drinks. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this place to anyone.
