via Stay22About this place Zum Schiffchen
Zum Schiffchen, Düsseldorf's oldest restaurant, has been at 5 Hafenstraße for nearly 380 years.
Dignitaries have eaten here. So have countless locals. It's still a beloved spot in the city, specializing in the kind of heavy, traditional food you expect from the region, all washed down with Alt beer, Düsseldorf's signature brew.
This is a gay-friendly place, which means you can get a real taste of local cuisine without worrying about the vibe. Düsseldorf has plenty of LGBTQ+-welcoming restaurants, but Zum Schiffchen feels particularly old-school about its inclusivity — a traditional beerhall where everyone can eat regional specialties.
If you want something unpretentious and truly local, this is it. The prices are casual German dining prices. For opening hours and what's on the menu, check brauerei-zum-schiffchen.de.

All in all, pretty cool. There's just one young guy who hasn't had the chance to experience true friendliness. He probably just lacks the energy to reply to a "please," "thank you," or "goodbye." Unfortunately, people like that annoy me too much; I got the feeling he thought he was better than everyone else. He should work on that.
