About This Event
Hamburg's CSD (Christopher Street Day) has taken place every summer since 1980, a year after West Berlin's first. It is run by the association Hamburg Pride e.V., and legally the parade is a political demonstration, not a parade in the carnival sense. In 2026 police and organizers both put the crowd at about 300,000, up on the year before, and the organizers call it the biggest turnout in the city's history.
The program has three layers. Pride Week fills the last week of July with talks, parties and cultural events. Then comes the free Straßenfest around Jungfernstieg, Ballindamm and Rathausmarkt, running Friday to Sunday into the evening, with stages, DJs and stands from queer groups. The Saturday demo is the main draw. In 2026 it set off on Lübecker Straße and worked its way into the city center, with about 60 trucks from companies, clubs, political parties and the Protestant church, plus a biker contingent. Leading politicians marched, as did drag performer Olivia Jones.
The 2026 edition took place a week after a man drove a van into people near the closing party of Berlin's CSD and then attacked others with a blade, killing one person. Hamburg police roughly doubled their presence, and reported the day as peaceful. A Berlin CSD truck joined late, its riders dressed in dark clothes for the victims. A Civey poll for the Funke media group found 38% of respondents felt less safe after the attack. The motto, "Solidarisch queer. Haltung zeigen für eine Zukunft ohne Angst", fit the mood.
Practical: the demo falls on a Saturday in late July or early August, during the summer school holidays, and hotels around St. Georg and the Alster fill early. Stake out a spot on the route well before the start. The last edition ran 25 July to 2 August 2026, with the demo on 1 August. Hamburg Pride has announced that the 2027 demo is planned for 7 August 2027.

Head to the Kreuzweg wheelchair tribune
Hamburg Pride sets up a dedicated wheelchair viewing tribune at Kreuzweg with an unobstructed line to the parade — a huge upgrade on trying to see past the crowd along Mönckebergstraße.
Book the Pride Bus in advance
The Hamburg Pride Bus for elderly and mobility-restricted attendees needs registration by 15 July. If getting around on foot is an issue, sort this well before you fly in.
St. Georg is the after-party HQ
Once the demo hits Lombardsbrücke the party rolls back into Lange Reihe in St. Georg — Hamburg's gay village and where most of the bars, Pride House events and late-night crowds end up.
