About this place AIDS-Hilfe Karlsruhe (ZeSIA)

AIDS-Hilfe Karlsruhe e.V. is the city's HIV and sexual-health organisation. It runs ZeSIA (Zentrum für sexuelle Gesundheit, Identität und Aufklärung) at Sophienstraße 102 in the Weststadt. Services include anonymous HIV and STI testing, prevention advice, counselling and support for people living with HIV, with a strong focus on gay, bi and wider queer communities. Testing usually runs at set times, sometimes by appointment, so check the website before you go. The team also takes part in Karlsruhe's CSD and local community events, which makes it a useful first contact for visitors looking for queer groups or meetups in the city.

All the staff are super sweet and open. They explain everything in detail and alleviate any fears. Scheduling an appointment and receiving the test results over the phone was also very easy.

The telephone consultation was absolutely abysmal! You can't get a word in edgewise, and you're immediately pigeonholed: "You seem very uptight, I don't think that kind of sexual activity (without a condom, with testing) is good for your mental health." I work in the medical field myself and was simply looking for an inexpensive and discreet way to get tested for sexually transmitted infections. I'll now contact my family doctor.
