Rosa Wiesn — Gay Oktoberfest Munich

Rosa Wiesn is the name for the queer days at Munich's Oktoberfest. The biggest is Gay Sunday, on the first Sunday of the Wiesn, when the Bräurosl tent fills with gay men in lederhosen. It started in the 1970s as a table booking by the Münchner Löwen Club, a leather club. The city's official Oktoberfest pages say the club has been hosting it for more than 40 years.
The open part of the tent is free, but once it's full, it closes. People start queuing around 7:30am for a 9am start, and by late morning getting in is a matter of luck. The MLC sells balcony packages with reserved seats, and they sell out well in advance. Dress the part: Tracht is the norm, not fancy dress. In 2026, the tent officially carried the party over into the Monday, and that RoslMontag may come back in 2027. In 2010, PinkNews counted roughly 8,000 men in and around the tent on the day.
There's more to the queer Wiesn than Bräurosl. In 2026 the city listed a queer kickoff in the Käfer beer garden on opening Saturday, Subavaria in Kufflers Weinzelt, Proud Wiesn in the Armbrustschützenzelt (running since 2016, reservation needed), queer bowling at the Oide Wiesn, Prosecco-Wiesn at Fischer-Vroni on the second Monday, a ticketed Rosa Wiesn evening in the Wildstuben from €249, and a gay closing afternoon at Schottenhamel on the last Sunday.
Oktoberfest 2026 ran 19 September to 4 October, with Gay Sunday on 20 September. The city has set Oktoberfest 2027 for 18 September to 3 October, but the queer dates hadn't been published when we checked. Munich hotels price at Oktoberfest rates for the whole run, so book months ahead.

Practical Tips
The main Gay Sunday gathering is the first Sunday of Oktoberfest — arrive at Bräurosl well before noon or the tent seals its doors.
Wear a Tracht: Lederhosen for the guys, Dirndl for the gals.
