Hotel Deutsche Eiche on Reichenbachstraße is Munich’s best‑known gay hotel and one of the city’s oldest landmarks, a spot that once hosted Fassbinder and Freddie Mercury. The hotel sits in Glockenbachviertel, the city’s gay district, just a ten‑minute walk from Marienplatz. The area is peppered with bars that keep the night alive. Inside, you’ll find a handful of rooms, a Bavarian restaurant that welcomes everyone, a roof terrace with a view, and a large gay men’s sauna that’s part of the same complex. The sauna charges a separate entry fee. The rooms are mid‑range and fairly simple; the price reflects the location more than luxury. The décor is functional, not flashy. Because of its reputation, the hotel fills up early for CSD in summer and for Rosa Wiesn during Oktoberfest. Book well ahead if you’re planning to stay then.
