The opening ceremony of the ISSF Junior World Championship in shooting sports took place on June 17, 2026, in Suhl (Thuringia). A shooting sports world championship was held in Suhl as early as 1986—forty years ago. Thank you Mister President of the ISSF, for reminding Suhl of this.
Over 20 years ago, I was there twice for a seminar weekend. This time, I had the pleasure of accompanying sport shooters from various nations—NZL, ARG, and Japan—to the Youth Shooting World Championships by coach. Ten days of action, yet plenty of time to relax. I've never experienced anything quite like it. The hotel is currently operating with only half staff due to cost-cutting measures. And without exception, everyone was incredibly friendly, and I felt completely at ease. It was very welcoming and friendly, just like how I treat my passengers. I am so incredibly grateful to have stayed with you for these ten days, and I'm truly going home with tears in my eyes. I will definitely be back. You all have my utmost respect for the service you so willingly provide. And yes... some reviews mention the somewhat dated appearance of the place. But the real value lies with YOU, the entire staff. Thank you, and I truly want to give you all a big hug; it was so wonderful. Warmest regards... Wishing you continued courage, good luck, and wonderful guests! Hans-Joachim from ZI 117 from Omnibus Bohr GmbH We'll be back, we promise!
The staff were very friendly. The scenery (view) is great.
The hotel is situated on a hill offering a stunning view of Suhl. Throughout the hotel, you'll find a touch of nostalgia, as well as the unique charm that defines this place. The food is varied and delicious, and the cake and pastry corner leaves nothing to be desired. The management is also very friendly and accommodating, even if you have food intolerances or need an extra pillow—you just have to ask. All in all, it's a hotel that, after some setbacks, has finally managed to climb back up the ranks and I think it's well on its way to many more surprises. Year after year… 👍🏽
