About this place Why Not Café & Bar

Why Not is a gay café and bar at Belgrád rakpart 3-4, on the Pest bank of the Danube near Liberty Bridge. It is one of the most relaxed and visible gay venues in Budapest: terrace tables face the river, and inside the evenings are built around karaoke, bingo and drag nights. The crowd is mostly gay men, with plenty of tourists. Our hours list Thursday to Sunday from 20:00, but other sources say it opens daily from earlier in the day, so check before you go. Drinks are cheap. Hungary's laws have become more restrictive towards LGBTQ+ people, but the bar itself is easygoing.

We spent two evenings in a row at bar WhyNot in Budapest during our vacation. Oh, we had such a great time. Mega friendly bartenders. The male bartender, in particular, really made our evenings. Tasty, affordable drinks too. In terms of atmosphere, it is a very cozy bar. Sweet, approachable people. We are going to miss it!

This gay bar has some really great cocktails, but not super strong. On some days they have events like a drag show and a bingo game night, but they don´t advertise it as much so we missed some. You can only see the calendar at the bar itself. The staff is super friendly, and the place has a nice vibe.
