About this place Il Convento dei Fiori di Seta

Il Convento dei Fiori di Seta occupies a 15th-century convent building on Via Orfeo, in the characterful neighbourhood south of Piazza Maggiore between the Due Torri and the Cassero. The hotel has 18 rooms, each individually decorated with antiques, local art and fabrics — the name refers to silk flowers, and the décor reflects a deliberate aesthetic of layered texture and colour. The garden courtyard is exceptional: a walled outdoor space with fig trees, terracotta pots and a genuinely peaceful atmosphere within five minutes of the city's busiest squares. The hotel has been consistently praised by LGBTQ+ guests on international booking platforms for the warmth of its welcome and the lack of any awkwardness around same-sex couples. It is not a gay hotel — it does not market specifically to the LGBTQ+ community — but it is the kind of family-run boutique property where the owners genuinely don't care who you sleep with. The Cassero is a 12-minute walk. Price range is mid-to-upper for Bologna (3–4 star equivalent).

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The building is beautiful, but upon entering, there's a musty smell. The room is clean and spacious, but there's one aspect that, in my opinion, needs improvement for it to live up to its star rating. Unfortunately, the bed wasn't up to par: the mattress was too firm and the pillow was uncomfortable. This made it difficult to sleep through the night, impacting the overall quality of the stay. I believe offering more comfortable and ergonomic options could make a difference. Furthermore, when leaving the room after breakfast, around 10:00 a.m., I left a sign on the doorknob that said "OK for cleaning" as I left the hotel, but when I returned in the afternoon, the room still hadn't been cleaned. Shortly thereafter, the staff knocked on the door to begin cleaning, creating an inconvenience that could have been avoided with better scheduling. I would suggest paying greater attention to both the bed comfort and the organization of the housekeeping service to improve the guest experience.

Excellent hotel in the center of Bologna. As soon as you step outside, you're immediately immersed in historic, authentic Bologna, with the longest porticoes in the world that, if you wish, lead to the Sanctuary of San Luca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Historic shops, sfogline (pasta makers) making fresh, typical Emilian pasta, including lasagna sheets, tortellini, tortellioni, and the famous tagliatelle, available either ready-made or ready-made and served quickly, perhaps with a glass of Lambrusco. A typical Bolognese atmosphere. It's all worth trying. The best of Italian cuisine and beyond.

I chose the Convento dei Fiori di Seta for my stay in Bologna to experience something different, and I was very satisfied! I recommend the suite for a complete experience. Friendly and helpful staff. The property is located in a quieter area; a 10-minute walk through Bologna's porticoes takes you to Piazza Maggiore. Highly recommended!
