From Piazza Barberini to Via Veneto, the Belle Époque street—with its luxury hotels and Parisian-style cafés—became a destination for film stars and artists in the 1950s and 1960s, and was finally immortalized by Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita. The first hotel to open on the street, in 1889, was the Majestic, designed by Gaetano Koch—who also designed the nearby American Embassy and the Bank of Italy—who gave the building its unmistakable piano-like appearance. Its modernity, architectural design, tapestries, precious furniture, and Domenico Bruschi's frescoes in the ballroom have made it famous since the 1920s: kings and queens, princes and princesses, and even stars of the entertainment world, have made it their favorite place to stay in Rome. A few years later, the nearby Palace Hotel, designed in Neo-Renaissance style by architect Carlo Busiri Vici, opened. Having become the home of the American Embassy library after World War II, it reopened in the 1990s as the Ambasciatori Palace, preserving the beauty of its original rooms and decorations, such as the wrought-iron balustrade of the Art Nouveau staircase. Finally, in 1927, the Albergo degli Ambasciatori, now the Grand Hotel Palace, was triumphantly inaugurated on Via Veneto. An example of Roman modernism, it was designed by architect Marcello Piacentini and marks the transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. Crossing its wrought-iron and bronze gates, one is immersed in an atmosphere of times gone by, amidst stucco, crystal chandeliers, marble floors, and marvelous frescoes painted by the Venetian Guido Cadorin. Among the portraits are the hotel's owners, Marcello Piacentini with his family, and an unexpected Gio Ponti peering out from a column with a wry smile.

SCAM. Booked 3 nights through “booking.com” with PayPal payment option. Confirmed email received. I’m now standing outside with my family and kids in tow and they are CLOSED! This is during Easter weekend when all hotels in Rome is sold out. We are now scrambling to find a place to stay.

attention great scam. I booked for 2 rooms and paid through a bank. they do not answer my phones and emails and of course I did not get my money back. crooks

The hotel is very clean, the location is excellent, central, and the service is very excellent.

Excellent hotel. I worked there for 27 years. I was there for a reunion with former colleagues. What can I say? The nostalgia is always there. Excellent memories, even if not pleasant ones, with other colleagues.

It was perfect; the staff were attentive from reception to the restaurant. The hotel is well located, not too close to the center and just behind the Villa Borghese gardens. If we have a future trip, we won't hesitate for a second to book here again.
