Hotel Pantheon Rome

Booking number: 207-15327687 Hotel: Pantheon, Rome. 4 stars – actually 1. Day 1: Overbooking and "vodka diplomacy" We booked and paid for a room three months in advance. Upon arrival, our room was "occupied," and we were forcibly moved to a suite on the 4th floor with no elevator (with three suitcases). The evening manager yelled, gesticulated, and accused us of being "bad Russians" for refusing to give up the room. Quote: "If you don't want wine, I'll give you vodka!" The police, called by the manager, confirmed this was a civil dispute and a breach of contract by the hotel. It turned out the employee has severe asthma – the management is cynically using this sick person as cover for the conflicts they create. Service and Vandalism Accusations The hotel responded to my email complaint with insults: I'm a "horrible person" for not appreciating their right to change the conditions of my stay as they please. I immediately returned a bottle of sparkling wine that was thrown into my room. In response, I received accusations of vandalism: allegedly, I tore off a window seal and "almost killed someone." Apparently, the hotel's decrepit windows crumble at the touch, and the guest is to blame. Advice: at the Pantheon, it's best not to touch the windows, doors, or the rusty old elevator—they'll blame you for everything. Room: Age-old dust and "drunk" Versace When we finally got to our room, the reality was shocking: Dirt: Age-old dust everywhere, clouds of dirt behind the curtains. They took my tips, but didn't clean. There was black mold in the shower, a rusty heated towel rail, and empty bottles from previous tenants on the shower head. Furniture and decor: Instead of a double bed, there are two narrow mattresses. The "antique" mirror frame is swollen chipboard made of sawdust with nail holes. The tiles with Versace inlays are hung so crookedly, as if the tiler was drunk. Safety: The wiring in the bathroom is sticking out from under crumbling plaster, and in the room, it's hanging from the ceiling. The thermostat burned out (a black streak on the wall). There was no hot water on the morning of check-out. Ergonomics: The shower faucet is at knee level—a "fitness and washing" experience all in one. Breakfast: A soup kitchen The food looks extremely unpresentable. Dried fried eggs are offensive in Rome and unacceptable for a 4-star hotel. As a result, for three days we were limited to coffee, a hard-boiled egg, and a muffin. Bottom Line If you want to spend your money on overbookings, rudeness, national stereotypes, and accusations of vandalism, then the Pantheon Hotel is for you. All the absurd correspondence with the management and photos of the devastation have been preserved. Read the negative reviews carefully—they tell the whole truth about this place. It's good that this experience didn't spoil the overall impression of this great Italian city, but I'll never set foot there again.

WiFi was very slow and unstable. Hard to do work on laptop. But hotel is in great location.

Excellent in the heart of Rome

Super centrally located hotel. It's right next to the Pantheon.

I continue to stay at this hotel every time I’m in Rome. Great location, wonderful and helpful staff, very comfortable and clean! I will keep returning.

Really great 4 star boutique hotel. As soon as we arrived a man took our cases and they were whisked off to our room. Location was perfect, right in the centre of everything, but also incredibly quiet inside the hotel. 5 Steps outside the front door and there’s the beautiful Pantheon looking at you. It’s 5mins walk from Trevi fountain, 10mins from Spanish steps. 5-10mins from streets and streets of famous Italian designer shops. There’s also loads and loads of restaurants within a few steps. The hotel was lovely and clean, our room was tended to everyday. When we arrived there was a bottle of Prosecco in an ice bucket. When you want to drink it you just call reception and they bring up fresh ice. Roberto on the front desk was excellent. Incredibly professional, he was always willing to help in anyway he could. Thank you Roberto. Breakfast was great too, there really was something for everyone. Hot and cold foods you name it and it was there, they even had fresh honey running straight from the honeycomb. Scrummy! We stayed for 3 nights and had lovely time. We highly recommend this hotel. When we go back to Rome we will be staying here again. Quick note: If you need a taxi get the hotel to order you one, as they use very reputable (black cab) firm, who are very reasonable and will charge exactly what they quoted. Some of the local “white cabs” across the square can be rather unscrupulous.

The only redeeming feature is the hotel's location, but the room is ugly and dark, with a small window overlooking a courtyard with the motor of an ice cream shop running until late in the evening in front of the window. The photos posted are very bright, even of the breakfast room: the spaces are very different from the reality. The breakfast room is on the lower floor. Breakfast is definitely not a 4-star hotel, maybe a 2-star. A negative experience.
